What baggers belief is how they (being Rossi and Parfitt) felt this look was the right way to go? Surely, any grown adult with common sense could see this 'look' was not appealing to anyone - old fan and new. How friggin off one's head did you have to be to be taken for a ride in this way?? I was fortunate enough to had given up on them completely after Live Aid and the Alan split and never even gave them a look at again until I heard promo snippets of Heavy Traffic so I never even saw how low they had succumb. I heard about it but just shook my head at the thought of it all and went on with my day.

I have never really cared about image when it came to Status Quo. When I started to listen to them they were already old enough to be my Dad.
When people talk about image you would have thought it had stayed the same from 70 to 85. Francis by the 80s was looking like a long haired Geography teacher. It wasn’t so much of a shock really.
Just like the music didn’t jump from Is there a better way to Burning bridges.
For me it was always about the music. My interest started to decline when I first heard 1982. By then they were dressing ever so smartly and pretty much all the same in promo shots.
The image of the 80s reflected who they were. Increasingly chasing the mainstream and light entertainment. The music matched their image.

Let's not forget Al and Rick's 'shorthairgate' in 1983!

I certainly cared about the image when I was younger. I wanted my rock star heroes to look and act like rock stars. And I wanted to dress just like them. I'm talking about mid-teens to maybe early 20's here. After that, evolution dictates that a certain maturity kicks in. Or the brain seems to work differently, put it that way. Their move, so very obviously deliberate, into the light entertainment side of things irritated me. I don't like 'light entertainment'. It's usually neither funny nor entertaining. So I tended to miss their appearances on things like Cannon & Ball, Des O'Connor, Noel Edmonds, that sort of thing. Because I never watched most of it. I've only seen them in retrospect since on YouTube or wherever. Never even knew they were on till I got to work on the Monday or whenever and someone told me. Now I dare say there's an element of snobbery involved here. I'm not proud of myself But nor can I help myself So I'd obviously rather have seen Quo on Jools Holland or The Tube than Little & Large. Playing live tracks that the general public ain't heard. And showing off what they really can do. But they let media companies and management take control and were happy to flog Rockin' ad infinitem as long as it got them noticed by as many as possible. Compilation CD's need that. Meanwhile, Rick pitches up on Mr & Mrs just to show where his preferences lie deep down. I suspect there was inner conflict in that man. Drives the reunion almost single handed but was happy to appear on a quiz show which scrapes the bottom of whatever barrel you want to mention. It all certainly confused me

I think there are worse photos out there. Bula Quo era... Rick’s hair cut from the first reunion tour. It was brutal. Think his Mam did it.
