Inspired by a post elsewhere on here.
I’m not sure there is any criteria, to come to a best.
Musicians may be able to tell us which is best in terms of technique or some other reason.
Me I can only go with what sounds good to me.
If I think hard some of his solos transcend some of the more average songs.
Off the top of my head, I’d go with the solos in Backwater or Don’t waste my time. Are they the best or my favourites ? But there are many other great solos. Certainly love the solo in Unspoken words.

Far too many to mention probably. From O Baby right through to Solid Gold and beyond. Technically, I have no idea which is the best or hardest to play. I just know that several make the hairs on my neck stand on end. Which is what a guitar solo is supposed to do in my book. And I'm not talking in a negative way like Electric Arena

Didn’t he play it on his solo tour ? I assume he didn’t let rip on a bluesy solo on that either ?

Actually I need to throw Fine Fine Fine into the mix. That's a beauty and a bit leftfield. Francis was a very good country player even then.

More or less the same note for note but the tone of the guitar didn't make it sound like nails down a blackboard. It was always a little bit too Gary Moore for my liking anyway because (gulp ) I'm afraid I was never a fan. I appreciate that's sacrilege in some circles so I'll go listen to some Katy Perry as penitence

I’m in honesty not that keen on the blues. Which is odd really.
