For you delectation, an example of the ancient art of the Quo dance as demonstrated by Mud and their 'road crew' in 1974!

Only being in my late 50’s that was my first introduction to it. Watching Mud on TOTP. I don’t recall seeing Quo or Quo fans doing the actual dance apart from general head banging before this.

I suppose for non-rockers it's a genteel form of headbanging. done what I'd consider to be "properly" there's nothing remotely genteel about it & the headbanging is a genuine risk if somebody's timing is slightly out

Always hated the ‘shoulder dance’. Usually it’s done at weddings when the relatives request a Quo song for you and then proceed to do it because they think that’s what Quo fans do....
I believe it was originally a biker dance as Dennis described.

Y'know the one, where you put the hands on the hips and swing from side to side? Yeah, that one...Anyone who has ever done that in their lives, please step forward now so you can be shamed!! I've never seen it done in my life at a Quo gig and it's fabulously cringey, eyeball rolling and it gives me the shits Eat plenty of eggs and cheese, my father used to call cheese "bung" for the effect it had on him. Curry cheese chips with fried eggs. Always have that after I come home from a night of drinking somewhere...Needless to say, I'll be dead by the time I'm 40

It's called the grebo dance
Like the Rockers before them, the Grebos indulged in dancing, not so much of the rock and roll-styled bop or disco shuffle, but something in between. One dance actually called Grebo was a favourite. Legs apart, hands on your hips, you leaned forwards from the hip and twisted to the right, twice. Then repeat to the right. Partners faced each other, more than two formed a ring

I used to come out of the gig like the loser in a tyson fight but always smiling !

Kindly shame me! I loved it (though I have never performed it as a line dance, and would blush to. I can see how it might make a front line, though). I think my BIL, the one with the good 45s collection, introduced me to it. We kept it for parties, as an excuse to put Roll Over on and clear us a space. Not so much headbanging as anti-head-banging as doing it fase to face the trick is not to knock yourself or your partner out. I'm getting used, in this life, to being the fan who wasn't there at the start and has beliefs that make true original fans cringe!

Thank you! nI freely admit that I don't know that one (small mercies, be thankful for ... ), I only knew the basic shoulder rock (left and right of stage). In a shuffle rhythm. I decline to scorn nearly any dance, as any dance is better than no dance. Too many blokes won't lift a foot. One of the good things about the Mr (and the BIL) is that they will get out there and leap around. I think that's one reason we keep them. Yes, they look daft. Go for it, guys!

First time I saw this was when Mud did Tiger Feet on Top of the Pops (*see aforementioned video). And there I thought it would remain. Of it's day type thing. I then saw it being 'performed' in Quo's video for The Anniversary Waltz (whatever fvckin' part it was) about a decade and half later later and was, frankly, appalled. I had to go into work next day and face the ridicule As if the 70's hadn't been bad enough at school what with Stackridge, Hatfield & the North and Gentle Giant fans having a pop! Let us speak no more of this.
