Was this the one where he was wearing the canary yellow suit?
What ever that man was thinking...
but then again he wears white socks with his loafers, had a pony tail and was in Status Quo when they became a joke and was largely to blame for this!
Nothing else needs to be said.
Ego and inflated ideas of ones importance and ability has a lot to answer for in the case of Rossi.

They're both wearing Silver suits in this.

My faded memory and all that, but I am fairly sure I watched this curiously odd video for the first time when Rossi had been interviewed by Selina Scott, on the sofa on 'Breakfast Time' TV in around 1985. 10 years later Selina Scott would of course become better known for her interview with D Trump! After watching the video, I seem to remember Selina asking Francis as to "where's Bernie?" (a question that would be asked quite a bit until Bernie's sad story end). I think Francis joked back that Bernie was hiding behind the sofa as too scared to be interviewed on TV! Bernie didn't seem to look completely at ease in the few TV appearances, when performing 'Modern Romance' and 'Jealously'. Francis seemed to be over compensating by over doing the side glances and banter chat thing on stage with Bernie that he did with Rick, but it wasn't working for me for some reason. I thought at the time that it would be better if Rossi dropped that stuff and just got on with performing the song. Francis also appeared on Wogan around April 1985. Not sure if Bernie was with him as I've not seen it myself. Bernie probably preferred the studio side of being a musician. As I said in my Rossi / Frost thread, he's done session work with a handful of other musicians. Demis Roussos, Jackie Lynton, Jack Lancaster etc.

I was a huge fan of those Mel Brooks films myself. But Mel Brooks this isn't! I'll hold my hands up here and say that the song itself is not as bad as I remember. I haven't listened to it in decades, despite it being included on all manner of remasters and deluxe editions. But that doesn't mean I'm going to dig it out and play it shortly I managed to get hold of a copy of Rick's Recorded Delivery like everyone else but Flying Debris seems to have been very hard to come by. Maybe just as well Although I did like Where Are We Now, the B-side of Jealousy. Ish. Maybe that's because it was like Quo! Well Quo around that time You need to spend more time in the ‘What are you listening to right now’ thread mate, it makes a regular appearance. Legend has it this was soon after Rolling Stone published their ‘Top 100 guitarists’ and Prince was missing....so he thought he’d demonstrate how his practicing in his bedroom was paying off.

I suppose he can't have been lacking too much confidence when putting himself up for an audition for Genesis after Peter Gabriel left the band. Hard to image though in the light of the appearances with Rossi. Incidentally, Tony Banks was very much of the studio musician mindset rather than a natural performer on stage.

Of course, Peter Gabriel was initially a really awful case of stagefright... hence the costumes and play-acting! But even Francis commented, I think, on how the duo act with Bernie wasn't really as natural as with Rick. (Must read his book again.) "Modern Romance" isn't miles removed from the similarly sentimental Kinks mid-80s hits "Come Dancing" and "Don't Forget to Dance", if you ask me... only that it worked for Ray Davies and it didn't for Francis, charts-wise. I haven't watched the video.

Don't forget, I'll be here all the time, if you decide, you want to start a brand new story. anytime anywhere, anytime anywhere Personally, I like the Rossi / Frost singles from 1985. Jealousy I liked anyway, but the '85 version is better.

as long as this song never gets the remixed restored 2020 version we should all be safe from that monstrosity of a song

Is that Pete Kircher on drums in the video? On the Wogan Show there had been Pete K on the drums and Andy Bown on Bass/keyboard.

Is that Pete Kircher on drums in the video? Yep. He and Andy both worked with Francis on his solo album "Flying Debris"

Although I did like Where Are We Now, the B-side of Jealousy. Ish. Maybe that's because it was like Quo! Well Quo around that time I really like Where Are You Now. To me, it sounds like Quo. Not FF Quo, but Quo (I guess you can call it 80's Quo, but all Quos are Quo to me). If it had been used with Quo, especially with 1985+ Quo, could have sounded a bit rockier and heavier. Imagine this song with a RTYD production or so; Could have been pretty good. Anyway, I do like the way it is.
