Has anyone heard this one before? Not sure of the source, but sounds like it was recorded pre-Spare Parts, possibly the same session as "José".
Does anyone have any info on it? The YT user has tried to make a complete song from an excerpt, fairly succesfully.

As the uploader, thanks! This is a very rough attempt at restoring the track to "full" from the faded in/out clips that I had. Made this years back - could definitely do better!
No idea where the track came from but I only know of that faded MP3 that turned up a long while back. I don't know if it has surfaced in lossless or on any bootlegs, but I think it's rumoured on a collection of BBC stuff.
From what I recall reading, the book "Tuned To The Music" (that I've never read) mentions it as a Spectres recording, but I don't know anything beyond that.
It sounds very different to the two very early tracks that turned up, so I'd suspect 66-67 if it's indeed pre-Quo.
(Sorry I never replied to your comment on YT; I didn't know of much useful to say!)

Fantastic find! Quo studio works, that never surfaced before (or are too obscure). Very nice.

This is a direct quote from the "Tuned to the Music of Status Quo" book about the song:
"This recording surfaced during the nineties on a publisher's acetate disc, used as a demonstration disc for prospective managers and singers who were looking for new material. Alan Lancaster has confirmed that this track was recorded by The Spectres in 1966 for Valley Music and is one of several that the group made for the company around this time. To date, "Hello I Love You" is the only one of the acetate recordings that feature The Spectres to surface."
So I guess the 1969 reference may or may not be correct.
It's inclusion here is the only time I've ever heard it so thanks for sharing and nice job putting it together! The composer of the song is listed in the book as "unknown".
It's an informative book. Worth a read. Published as a limited edition in 2001 by the way. If anyone is interested.

Gotta say, i'm suprised to hear that it's possibly a 1966 recording by The Spectres. It sounds very unlike anything they ever did, musically and technologically. It sounds like it has that lysergic tinged melodicness of the later 60's psychedelic era. I would like to take that up with Alan himself!! And i'm sure i can hear Rick doing the harmony on it. BUT....it may just be my ears need cleaned out, and my mind has become a bit conditioned by what i've heard from that era and not open to other possibilities.

Fwiw, here's the original mp3 of the track I've had lying around forever before my attempts at mangling it back together A whopping 80kps bitrate.. Apparently this mp3 is only from 2009 whereas the two other Spectres recordings (Love In Vain, Say That You Need Me) seem to be from 2005. I've also got a few seconds of another unreleased demo ripped from an old Roy Lynes YT video.

Goodness knows how that came about. I suppose acetates can find their way into anyone's hands eventually, but guessing these would have needed some sort of clearance with Francis, Alan, and Roy.
Love In Vain was a Francis/Alan song, and Say That You Need Me was by Roy.
I have vinyl rips @ 320KBPs if anyone wants to hear them.

I've seen copies of the acetate for sale that I assume are genuine. But in terms of rights, who knows. I've also got them in 320kbs which makes this other one being so low all the more frustrating! The fourth thing I mentioned is less than 10 seconds of a track that I tentatively want to call "I Should Have Left Her Alone" which iirc was used in the background of a Roy Lynes video that's no longer online - it was slightly longer but with him talking over the part I didn't rip. Dunno if there's any interest in something so short.

Interesting and presumably no connection with the Robert Johnson song of the same name covered by the Stones in (coincidentally) 1969!

I am almost certain it is Rick in main harmomy through the song. I would suspect it is not 1966, more likely later 60s.

Really enjoyed that. Francis has a great voice for radio and Ricks harmonies are superb. Together they’re almost Bee Gee like in that song. ...hmmm actually, I reckon it lends itself to a bit of Pink Floydish sound

The song, or at least the way that it's arranged, is quite unusual. It has/had real potential but obviously no one took it on.
