Thank you for that. Memory lane! I met Hugh Fielder once, decent guy. Nice to know he's still out and about. I remember princess Di too (in the distance ... ) Very tall lady (in spike heels) with enormous hair. She towered over Prince Charles.

Quo's live aid story really has been that of Rick and Francis. We know Rick went to the pub, and that Francis stayed backstage getting coked up. Has anyone asked Alan about his live aid recollections, or Andy? And then there's John, who was very hurt not to be involved.
I thought the Loudersounds article was a very lazy throwing together of the bands official line. With just a bit of delving they could have written something a lot more interesting

Is there a Quo interview in existence where they actually take it seriously instead of laughing at their own little in-jokes?

Just watching 'Live Aid: Against All Odds' (2 part series) on BBC 2. Quite a bit of footage/interviews/stories I haven't seen before.
The Quo article in Classic Rock is a regurgitation of stuff that most of us on this board have heard and read before. Though I guess we are not really their target audience on this occasion. Thought that was a good line in the article about Quo’s place in history being assured. Who was the opening act at Live Aid? It’s been a staple of pub quizzes ever since.
When you see how Live Aid came together and all very ramshackle (still an incredible achievement though back in 1985) right up to the day itself then it is hard to imagine how John C could have been involved really. No serious rehearsals and the band thinking they will have to wing it. Though must have been strange for him to be at home watching.
No surprise that Rossi thought Quo were dreadful on the day. In the circumstances I thought they probably won over those in the Stadium and a significant number of those watching on TV. Definitely not dreadful.

Is there a Quo interview in existence where they actually take it seriously instead of laughing at their own little in-jokes? Agree... I usually cringe when watching/ listening to Quo (Rick/Francis) slapstick interviews but Alan has always given a decent account when queried about Quo without the need to humour.

They got on before a worldwide audience, played well and got the crowd clapping before Freddie. Only naff bit was the idiot camera guy.
They didn't get caught up in any of the disasters that were bound to happen - McCartney audio, The Who blackout, Led Zeppelin's effort.
Best funny quip from Rick when in Australia a while back....
"Live Aid - was there any pressure when you hit that first chord?"
Rick - "Yes, the other two were pressure as well".

Live Aid gets a mention in this more serious Rossi interview with Andrew Neil in 1996.
Back in the mists of time, young inexperienced Journalists were often told that Rossi and Parfitt could be a nightmare to interview, especially if they had been having those funny cigarettes. Rossi and Parfitt gradually earned a reputation of being the Morecombe & Wise of the rock world. Perhaps they felt they had to try to live up to that reputation after a time with every interview they did together.
When being separated in class!... Rossi and Parfitt could give excellent interviews on their own. Take the ones with Annie Nightingale for instance. For some reason, when interviewed together, it could go either way!
One of the better Rossi/Parfitt interviews had been with Michael Aspel. Prime TV slot and they managed to get the right balance of more serious comments and good humour. Dawn French and John Hurt helped with the banter!

Francis mentioned Live Aid during his 'talk' tour last year. And was generally serious about it but also very cynical when he looked at it in retrospect. Rick and Francis have always been a bit of a comic duo during interviews going right back to the mid 70's. I remember them doing a show with Annie Nightingale on Radio 1 where they were reviewing new singles and it was chaos. She barely got a serious word out of them. I also think that in later years they tended to try and 'keep up appearances' when they weren't getting on. Otherwise they might have been seen as the older version of the Gallagher brothers. Never a good thing
