I am not sure if anyone on here is bothered by The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but as I have been doing the square root of f*ck all at work today I decided to look at the nominations for 2020. Well you have a couple of big hitters mainly American, but then up pops Judas Priest, Motorhead and Thin Lizzy. Now this got me thinking, surely our beloved Quo (1970-1984) should have got the nod by now. Anyway I fired off an email to the relevant people and recieved a very nice reply. It basically has said that I have to write a letter to the nominating committee with my reason why Quo should get a nomination. The email provided an address, obviously in the USA. So as tomorrow looks like a nice day and I am at work twiddling my thumbs, I think I will fire off a letter. Any suggestions?

I *think* I'm right in saying that Quo are the biggest rock band in the world (album sales) never to crack the states.
Only US hit 1968, yet still a working band that tours and makes albums 52 years later.

It would be nice for Quo to be recognised in the Hall of fame. They always seem to be ignored in the US as there not as well known in North America (decent success in South America) Quo deserve their place though, especially when you consider the amount off gigs & record sales they’ve had on a consistent basis over along period of time (8000+ gigs...130 million record sales 200 gold silver & platinum discs etc) They’ve also done a lot for charity over the years inc Princes trust & nordoff robins. What else is there left to achieve...now or never I’d say!!!

Quo & the States has been talked about many times on all the forums. Britain’s best kept secret in North America ...unbelievable.

I always figured it’d be a fair assumption that Quo would be in the Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith league had they cracked the big one.

Someone a while back left a comment on one of my videos on youtube, stating; "Mid 70's Michigan Palace Theatre! Three bands, five bucks! Rush, Kansas and Status Quo! Very next week, Heart, Kansas and Status Quo! These guys came out with no fanfare, almost completely unknown to Detroit, in front of a beat up wall of Sound City amps! Forever changed my life!"
I don't see Quo ever being put into the Hall Of Fame. Fair enough, they can be nominated, but the majority of the time it's down to who the people vote to put in. Americans arent going to pick a band that never made it in the states over a band theyve heard of.
Def Leppard made a whole campaign out of their nomination and got tons of votes to be put in over other artists. It just wouldnt happen for Quo.

They could stand shoulder to shoulder with Titans like The Cure, The Dave Clarke Five,The Hollies, The Moody Blues, Pete Seeger and Tupac.

It should be called The American Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Halls of Fame, whether it's for music or sport or whatever, have always been a largely American creation. They seem to go for it more. There are, of course, halls of fame here. There's even a Scottish football one believe it or not. I think there might be a couple of names that made it in but not much more than that Actually, that's not strictly true. I think all you have to do is get 50 caps. And if you can't get 50 caps in this era of Scottish football wilderness, then you are officially kerrap. Take a bow, Grant Hanley But these pantheons of recognition are largely ignored here in the UK. I'm not sure if there's a UK music Hall of Fame. I don't think so. If there was, Quo would be in it. No question. What we tend to do is award long standing acts at the Brits for their 'contribution'. Which is like a pat on the top of the head by the young saying "there you go, granddad; now off you trot"

Love this! Those classic albums just need to be heard! I’m sure a lot of Americans would have appreciated them more if they’d had the right promotion.

Viv, I have commented on this clip on YouTube. I thought it was a very good review. Just a shame it was 46 years too late!

Love this! Those classic albums just need to be heard! I’m sure a lot of Americans would have appreciated them more if they’d had the right promotion. You can tell by the ages of the ladies concerned that in 1974, a Quo album would have been of no interest to them, if they were even born! And that is perhaps part of the problem with Quo and America; timing. It's all very well liking a 70's Quo album now but there is no retro market for that. In the mid-70's, American music was not the place for a brash, less than musically perfect rock band like Status Quo. Punk and new wave were a few years away which is something that Quo might have been able to latch on to (or certainly their promoters/management) but as punk came in, Quo changed approach! Once again, timing is everything. Soul and the Philadelphia sound were also dominant. Which is why Bowie, rather astutely, recorded Young Americans. There was no place for a blues based boogie band (as they would probably call it). They had plenty of their own. Not one of them as good as Quo. Only Foghat even came close in my view. And even then....

Which is like a pat on the top of the head by the young saying "there you go, granddad; now off you trot" They did try to get a UK Hall of Fame off the ground in about 2004 but it closed down in 2007. About 30 acts were ‘inducted’ Status Quo were not amongst them. The one the USA is self appointed. I don’t know why I find it amusing it’s situated in Cleveland. ‘Hello Cleveland’. As the way to get in is by public vote, in the USA we’ll Status Quo would have zero chance. Probably not that high a chance in the U.K. As a lot of their audience will be silver surfers and not tech savvy. Would they be deserving absolutely. But as with these things politically it would be difficult.
