I have had a change of heart about how I felt in the past about Rossi continuing Quo.
I used the think it was Counterfeit Quo etc etc.
But I heard Easy Livin' by Uriah Heep. I checked them out. Great classic rock band. And they are celebrating 50 years. Of course for years and years the only original guy is the guitar player.
I watched a show from 2019. Great band performance. Great singer. Great songs. Would I pay money to go to a show? Yes. I know it's not the Uriah Heep of old. But from what I saw on YouTube it would be value for money. So I'm not bothered now about Rossi keeping Quo going. He's only doing what many other old rockers are doing. The only reason I won't go to another Quo gig is that I have seen them a few times in the past.
If it wasn't for Rossi in the first place we wouldn't have Quo.

Uriah Heep is still producing relevant material, their latest album 'Living the Dream' is as good as their best with Byron. Reviews have been full of praise and rightly so. They still sound like they mean it and their joy is apparent throughout the album. The musicianship and the songs are quite amazing. When you listen to them the 70s are back, but with a better sound. 'Appy Days, someone said.

Yes it's such a pity Quo can't do this. It's not like it would lose them audience, they may have thought that in the 80s, but it's not the case now. Quo had enough variety and interest in their "classic" period it should even keep Francis happy, it wasn't all mad headbanging back then, that was one of the things about Quo I knew long before i became a fan.
I think the reason they don't produce classics now is because they've lost the knack. Possibly trying too hard. I have no beef with Francis keeping it going, though. Our past dreams are out problem, not his!

For any band, it's only the hardcore fans that care about the line up

I'm not arsed about the personnel, just the sound. That was the great thing about the reunions, not so much that the 4 of them were there, but the sound they made together.

Quo now (and for the last 30 years) can't do what they did then. The only question is.... is the album any good? I think Backbone is an ok album. Quite enjoy it. It's not classic Quo, it's something different.
Most bands have a purple patch of a very short period. Quo's was much longer than usual and they managed to cling on for much longer across 2 major line-ups. They're a nostalgia act now, but the last album was ok.

I have no problem with that Rossi calls his band Status Quo. The personnel have changed gradually. The most drastic change was in 1986 and since the court found that that lineup had the right to call them self Status Quo they were in fact 100 % Status Quo. And since then they have only replaced one person at the time. If it was Status Quo in 1986 why shouldn't it be in 2000? If it was Status Quo in 2000 why shouldn't it be in 2013 and 2016?
The problem is that Rossi believes that he needs to write pop songs that are radio friendly. But he has never been good at that. Since the early eighties he has tried to do that but only managed to write a couple of pop songs that are good enough to stand on their own. Quo were great at heavy boogie rock but they have forgotten about that or just don't want to do that.

Can’t write pop song! How many hits? How many times on top of the pops? Sorry, I was just referring to my own preferences. For me there is some pieces missing. But I normally don't listen to what's on the radio either.

It's funny, I never really gave it an awful lot of thought till the advent of t'internet and broadband. I then found the official Quo message board and discovered that people DID bother about the line up. It was a bit of a revelation to me And here we are, about 20 years later, still banging on about it. I guess people should always have a hobby
