Thanks Viv, I look forward to listening later.
Interesting podcast too. I looked it up and plenty of other interesting people she's talked too. I scrolled back 2014. A wide range of musicians too.

Great interview and I liked Cat's interviewing style too.And not afraid to ask about his relationship with Francis.
The controversial detail I heard was the Rick wanted to continue with John and Alan and find another guitarist to replace Francis which John quickly covers by saying not a lot of people know that. And then he returns to the more familiar version which is that Francis didn't want to continue with them and suggests they do PLC.
I guess this is no real surprise now that we know how bad things were between them in those last years of Rick and Quo.

Thx for posting, enjoyed that "I'm left handed but play right handed" - didn't know that Also didn't know he'd toured with Phil Lynott Wasn't this the "Rockers" project with Phil, Roy Wood, Chas Hodges & Bev Bevan, that made a single together? Wasn't aware that they'd toured if so.

Yep, I don't think there had been a tour involved. The single was called 'We Are The Boys'. Pre dates 'Anniversary Waltz' by a few years in terms of rock n' roll medley. Think John also had been involved in a one off Christmas single 'The Xmas Song' with Bramble. The one that really got away for John, after Quo, had been 'Partners In Crime' with an album engineered and Produced by John Eden. What a line up as well in that band. I guess they didn't have something like the whole Quo machine behind them to get them on their way. In terms of PLC, it sounds very much like where they were at after the End of The Road. Francis not taking anyone's calls and seemingly turning his back on anything Quo? Alan and Rick then thinking about a Quo mkII. Presumably once Francis had made it clear that the Frantics were not long term in his diary after the reunions then Rick had mutiny on his mind?

Thank you for that. Cant believe he found people trying to play Rick's parts with up and down strokes! Different sound. Of course the better songs made the difference. I expect the frilly look would attract a certain amount of beer chucking in student bars, but in those days everyone had cute haircuts and shiny clothes. Their look was a bit like the Small Faces, a great great band and very sucessful. I could swear I heard him say there were lots of drink and drugs and LED. Their lighting guys mustve been ahead of their time. I always liked Dont Drive, from the first time I heard it. (Which was live.) One of the simplest guitar solos of all time, and the better for it! One of those songs that just gets a good sound going and doesn't mess with it. "Talked about but never happened." Like a few things in Quo history. Francis will forever by a mystery to me, how you cannot like all the good stuff you did. Stars who knock their pop hits are an embarrassment anyway. David Bowie never apologised for the Laughing Gnome. (Did he?)

Didn't realise that Bev Bevan had any part of that thing - thought it was JC! Great to see the video too and especially to see Philip... Brilliant! [what in God's name is the turnip in the pyjamas going on about? I skipped that forward to the music! ]
Heard the PiC album - not one that features on my 'playlist' [and that's totally unlikely to change... ever! Throwaway AOR pap, imho!]

Just listening to it now - always nice to hear JC talk, he sounds so calm and measured and none of the annoying, hamming-it-up 'Insecure show off'... blah, blah, blah!
