Status Quo V Nancy Sinatra Interesting to note that it was Kenny Young that wrote the A-side of Nancy Sinatra's single, "The Highway Song" (of which "Are You Growing Tired Of My Love?" is the B-side).
It was he that penned "Gentleman Joe's Sidewalk Cafe", the intended first single for The Status Quo. Luckily for all of us, they flipped the A-side with the B-side and Quo avoided a flop, and we got "Pictures of Matchstick Men" instead - and the rest is history!

Never heard Nancy's version. I like Quo's better.

Cheers, not seen that Great White clip before. At first I thought " 'ello..." it's a Spinal Tap parody! It's all there isn't it?! I think Rossi admired Ian Hunter's writings and possibly his persona at one time and no surprise to me in a way when 'Speechless' made an appearance on the Army album. I'm sure it left quite a few fans a bit speechless. Then we had 'Once Bitten..' which I suppose does lend itself to a bit of Quo treatment without too much genetic modification!

fretbuzzzzz I read somewhere that Rick was a fan of Great White. They had some hugely successful singles in America I've never really listened to Ian Hunter, though the original of once bitten is great. Im sure Francis could have found a song of his to cover that wouldn't have been such a problem to so many fans. As for Speechless, I won't link Quo's here but here's the original

Status Quo v ....er...Status Quo Name is spelt the same and the lead singer casts some resemblance to the other one but I fail to note any other comparisons. Chalk and cheese. That Hammy version knocks that other band out of the water. Jeez. If it isn't so obvious.
