Only really ever sat down to listen to the guitar arrangements on the mid section this morning.
Makes one cross eyed. Great guitar interplay. Criminally underrated

Yes, the transition from the chorus to the instrumental part is epic. The lead guitar is playing arpeggios over the chord progression: Cm D7 F6 C The D7 chord makes me think of The Beatles - I Want You (She's So Heavy) but there it is a E7 I think.

This song is in fact interesting as it has a very different structure and chord patterns, not only to other Quo songs, but to most contemporary rock songs. There is key changes and time changes, hard and soft parts. I think it's cool!

What middle part are we talking about? If we are talking about the part starting around minute 1, the chords are Bb C F Dm, possibly with some 7s thrown in. A very regular progression, but sounds good. To me, the song has a very balance between the instruments. Very powerful, very raw. Very heavy, especially after that part, when John just hits the cymbals, around minute 2. That part is very good. That's headbanging Quo. The dynamic changing between that and the aforementioned softer part is very good. Makes it a great song and a great opener.

Awful lot of overthinking going on here. If it grooves it grooves!

But the transition to this part (where the 3/4 starts) is like I wrote in my previous post and it's those four chords that I find the most interesting about the interlude.

Might sound like I’m stirring the pot here but not meaning to. For me it’s not a great track ! Each to their own but not for me. Hate the vocals and significantly lacks any melody even ff Quo had. Yeah it’s got power but little else ! Should never have been in position 4 on the live album. Totally unbalanced side one !

Other examples that spring to mind include 'Most of the Time' and 'Railroad'.

Loved it from the get-go. It was one of those "Quo are really much better than the general public would think" moments.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike it, but it's probably my least favourite track on the album. I know nothing about reading music or recognising chords so some of this discussion is lost on me. However, I do think the outro of the song is superb and wish it drove in that way all the way through. And talking of guitar interplay - something that Quo have NEVER been given credit for - it doesn't get any better than Over And Done. As the topic starter says, criminally underrated.
