There was a video on YouTube a while back that had the two side-by-side to compare, but I can't find it anymore. I'm gonna try and get some more done on this later on. It may be a while to get all the continuity stuff uploaded.

One was shown on Gold TV I think, and the other was a TOTP2 broadcast

Roll Over Lay Down was definitely played on the closing credits of TOTP. I had not long been into Quo and watched TOTP avidly to see them. I was very disappointed that it was only played over the credits, audio only, and not very long either.

Was the Roll Over Lay Down video recordered at a German tv studio at the end of May, with the band lip syncing to the original live recording. I vaguely remember it being played as the end credits rolled, when it entered the charts at 16 in the last week of May, but saying that I could be wrong, 45 years is a long time. Great work in putting this list together Hershie, a very interesting read. The last week of May '75 as the end credits were rolling The Stylistics β 'Sing Baby Sing' was playing:
29-5-75: Presenter: Dave Lee Travis
(5) SHOWADDYWADDY β Three Steps To Heaven (NEW) OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN β Follow Me (21) FOX β Imagine Me Imagine You (25) ERIC CLAPTON β Swing Low Sweet Chariot (danced to by Panβs People) * (NEW) KENNY β Baby I Love You, O.K.! (41) 10cc β Iβm Not In Love * (18) THE OSMONDS β The Proud One * (1) TAMMY WYNETTE β Stand By Your Man (3) THE STYLISTICS β Sing Baby Sing (and credits)
* although this show is wiped, these performances still exist

Down Down was the first track played on the pilot edition of Mike Mansfield's Supersonic on London Weekend Television at 11:30 on a Saturday morning on 01:03:75. The reason I remember this, it was my 18th Birthday and the Mighty Quo played the Southend Kursaal that evening. I don't suppose you were in attendance? I think I have mentioned ONCE before, that I was there......on my 18th birthday

I mentioned earlier that I think the best bet, if at all, would be 22/05. Looking at the listing on Popscene for that week it lists only 8 songs (usually it was 9/10 around this point I think) and doesn't list a song as over the end credits. It's entirely possible that Quo were the playout after Tammy Wynette. 22-5-75: Presenter: Tony Blackburn (Wiped) (12) SLADE β Thanks For The Memory (Wham Bam Thank You Mam) (14) JUDY COLLINS β Send In The Clowns * (NEW) ROY WOOD β Oh What A Shame (6) THE STYLISTICS β Sing Baby Sing (danced to by Panβs People) * (25) JACKIE WILSON β I Get The Sweetest Feeling (NEW) CATHERINE HOWE β Harry (19) DESMOND DEKKER β Israelites (1) TAMMY WYNETTE β Stand By Your Man (video)

I've also established there's enough evidence to say with relative certainty that the performance of Down Down from January 1975 is in fact a repeat from December 1974.
It would explain why archives have it both listed as surviving and a video/insert but also as a studio performance for the earlier episode, and explains why it doesn't fit in the latter. It's a studio performance recorded in advance of the first airing.
In terms of the studio used it matches nothing extant from either episode, nor those in between. However from what limited sources I have seen, it looks a more similar to the December sets than anything else from the January episode. However presumably this was filmed at a time when the band were available to do so, and so not with a prepared "show ready" set, or they'd have just been there to record the show.
Thoughts on this theory?

This is a fantastic project Hershie - thank you!
Just watched Rock N Roll and SBYBIL TOTP studio performances - I must have watched them as a kid live as thatβs when I got into Quo, but I donβt recall having seen them since!
I wonder if this thread will confirm the 100 appearances on TOTP or find it was another marketing ploy!
