Great photos. Looking into it, the black and white picture I was referring to is from In My Chair as well. There's a few from the same session as the latter one. It's labelled as being from a performance of Caroline and has the date of 01/10/1973. If it is from a Caroline performance, it'd have to be the one missing from 18/10/73, but I'm not at all certain. Going back to this one and I'm certian it's a rehearsal, I have seen other pics of this with Francis wearing the same jumper. However his hair is tied back and back then I don't think he was ever seen performing with the pony tail, that came much later.

Not sure what to make of this image.. Francis said after it all came out, they all heard stuff but nothing concrete was ever seen. However, they were told "Beware of the Leeds mafia". I believe it they would destroy any young bands carrer if they had said anything at the time. Roy Wood apparently said to Francis "Finally got the bastard just too late".

This is my first post on here, so apologies if this has been mentioned before. The link on here doesn't show this as it stops fractionally too soon, but if you can find the full show, at the end of Dear John John Peel says "Status Quo. They played at my wedding." I'm assuming it's not a joke as, as we all know, he was a huge supporter/fan of the band in the early '70s, but I've never heard that story before. Anyone got any ideas?
Oh, and hello to you all by the way!

He always spoke his mind, though, and I remember him saying when Don't Stop came out that it had "no redeeming qualities whatsoever"

Oh, and hello to you all by the way! Hello, good evening and welcome, I think it is true. Peel had that connection with Quo, as you and Mortified have said, in the 70s especially. JP penned the sleeve notes for the 1975 'Roll Over Lay Down' Quo live EP. He became a convert after seeing their cocky (as he put it) set and attitude at a festival in the early 70s. There's a picture of him, somewhere out there, chatting to Francis on a train. Possibly around 1979? When Rossi's 'Modern Romance' had been played on Radio 1's regular review show of the latest singles in the 80s, John Peel had been on the panel. I sensed that he didn't want to rip into it too much because of the past and he just left it by saying how he thought Rossi was a good chap but he had no idea what the thinking was behind 'Modern Romance'! Think Peel's favourite track had been 'Down Down'. An original version of the single had been found in his collection after his death. Though not a surprise as I think he always played 'Down Down' at his DJ events, such as at Glastonbury. Probably confused some punters who may not have been aware of his history with Quo. I think he also said Rod Stewart had been at his wedding, possibly singing. He mentioned this when, shortly before his death, he had been doing the TV chat with Jo Whiley at Glastonbury. I suppose he had that connection with Rod and the Faces going back to when they were on Top Of The Pops with 'Maggie May'. John Peel mimed to the mandolin bit on the stage as it had been originally recorded by someone else.

I can definitely put up a full copy of the Dear John continuity if anyone's interested in hearing what John Peel says.
"That's awfully sweet isn't it, Dear John. Do you think they mean me? Could they possibly mean me? Status Quo; they played at my wedding"
When it came to linking stuff in the original post, I tried to use what I could find on YouTube or elsewhere that had some kind of continuity for context and reference purposes. Where this didn't exist I have tried to upload these myself. With regards to doing so I have only uploaded the introduction to the song opposed to anything said afterwards, so I'll be honest I haven't paid attention to if any of this is missing from what I've linked to!
The exception is with the "Mystery Song" Noel Edmunds link and that's only because of YouTube copyright striking my upload of the full thing and forcing me to crop out the actual track in the middle. When it came to doing the rest, I don't really have the software nor the PC to do this efficiently myself! I could try and get any end "links" uploaded at some point I guess.
On which note, sorry for the lack of any further updates! I'll make amends soon.

I used to listen to the first half hour or so at 10 o'clock before I was sent to bed coz I had school in the morning It opened the show one night and I was blown away. I didn't even know a new Quo single was coming out. And of course he 'premiered' the Blue For You album in it's entirety over two nights before it was released. His motto was "always listen to something new every day". Basically, the complete opposite of what most of the music buying public do.

Although I did not listen to the John Peel `premier` of Blue For You, I can remember the show being advertised on Radio 1. Does anybody out there have a copy of the show (he asks hopefully)?

There's a photo of Francis with JP in Peel's (sadly unfinished) autobiography 'Margrave Of The Marshes'.
