Just read on John Coghlans Facebook page and hidden away in an answer to a point raised by someone else, John confirms Alan is now writing his side of the story.

Well it'll be Alan's version of the truth! Probably a lot closer to what really happened.

The "truth" will be somewhere between what he says and what Francis says. He should have written a book around the time of reunion when relations were good. If he did write one now it will be on the front foot and full of vitriol - to be honest I doubt we will see it. He has said a number of times over the last 30 years he will write a book because people "want to know the truth about what is going on". It has never looked like surfacing but if it does now it will be a very bitter book.
My respect for Nuff has dimmed significantly over the years with my encounters with him in Oz - certainly not the "nicest" person in the world. I understand some of his anger but Francis has hit home with a few things to be frank, and it is probably these things that are motivating him to hit back.

In 1984/1985 the band was practically over. Francis and Alan had different opinons about the musical course of the band and Francis didn't want to work with Alan anymore, mainly because of that. Drugs and big egos'(on both sides) did the rest. If the record company had not kept Francis and Rick to their contract to bring out a new record Francis wouldn't have considered to go on with Quo at all in any form whatsoever. And when Quo reformed 1n 1986 the record company made it very clear they wanted Francis and Rick as the 'faces' of the band and not Alan. After that Alan started the lawsuit about the name Status Quo and from that point on there was no way back. Alan stayed angry for 33 years.

Francis was living in his own bubble by MK '84 and didn't want to work with Alan or Rick, if the truth be told. He wanted to close down Quo for good.
Alan did what he thought was the right thing to do by trying to form Quo MK2 with Rick and keeping the band working in some form. Rick gave Alan the clear impression that this was definitely a good plan and bear in mind that Alan was staying with Rick at this point in time. They were ringing Francis but he wasn't picking up the phone as Alan and Rick still wanted to work with him as a band.
Alan went back to Oz to wrap up a few business things with the idea of coming back to the UK to get things moving with Rick. Then Alan must have felt a sense of betrayal when Rick went back to Francis. Then it was Rick's turn not to pick up the phone to Alan's frantic calls as Alan had no idea what was going on suddenly.
Once it was known in the business world that Alan was out of the money making band called Status Quo, he suddenly didn't have the security he once had or his calling card with his Banks and associates etc.
Must have been a terrible time.

During the Q&A session with Alan, John and Alan Parker at the recent FTMO convention, the topic of Alan's book came up. It doesn't sound like it's going anywhere as the writer Alan was working with on the project has passed away. Alan didn't say anything that suggested to me that this book will see the light of day.

Live Aid changed everything, I think Quo Mk2 may have got off the ground with Alan and Rick but after the success of Live Aid the RC wanted Francis and Rick and not bothered about the rest.

After that Alan started the lawsuit about the name Status Quo and from that point on there was no way back. Alan stayed angry for 33 years. The band weren't over. They were in the studios in late '84 laying down the ground work for a new Quo album, whilst also recording the overdubs for the Milton Keynes gig. Rick and Francis mentioned it in early '85 at a Quo Convention they attended. Things only changed once Live Aid came around. Francis has mentioned before that pretty much every artist that performed at Live Aid had new "product" coming out which would be successful off of the back of Live Aid... whereas Quo had nothing, but management wanted to capitalise on that. It was more or less Management / Alan Crux that didn't want Alan L back as he knew too much about the dodgy money dealings going on behind the scenes. Alan was ditched, and Quo reformed, secretly, in September 1985 when they started recording / working on the In The Army Now Album. Alan knew that they had booked studio time, and Rick was already dodging his calls as he didn't have the heart to tell Alan that he was going back to Quo. When he (Alan) lost the legal battle he had to resign from the band and surrender his shares in various companies, two of them being; Quo Entertainments LTD and Classic Moore Ltd.

Even though they re-convened for a few sessions (dubs etc) after the End Of Road '84 and The Wanderer, Francis also maintained that even though he had announced that the band would carry on recording together, in his mind, that wasn't going to be an option either.
As he left the stage at Milton Keynes, Quo were over and done. Just a case of waiting for the right moment to bring the shutters down.

I've never heard that version Quoincidence. Does Francis not mention and use his unhappiness with Alan to cover this other reason?? Why have we not heard about them working on an album late 84 before? I must have missed it if we have.

I think it has been covered up to look as though they hadn't spoken at all from Milton Keynes through to Live Aid. Quo being in the studio gets mentioned in Bob Youngs Just Doin' It book from 2006. They were in he studio around mid september down in Surrey. At the time they only released the Wanderer from that session with Cadillac Ranch appearing years down the line on the 4 disc set from Universal. As far as I know they recorded a few other tracks, one of which being Keep Me Guessing. I'll have to find the clip from the convention in early 85 where they mention the new album being in the works. Cheers
