Looking back at Rick on the FF tours on YouTube... Yes, he was 100% in his element and he was quite clearly loving it... But, he also struck me as "the new kid" Full of life and just a figure of pure happiness. Amazing what real music and real performances can do to you. I've no motive for starting this thread, just something I copped there

Absolutely spot-on... I saw the proper Rick on the FF tours... I'll bet in his head it felt like 40 years ago, full of vibe and the will to go out there and do it all over again after almost 30 years of being in the doldrums. I'm so sad that Rick has departed this life, but also so glad that the FF reunion DID happen within his lifetime, for Rick's and the Band's sake. That things went pear-shaped again is clearly evident, but that first reunion must have meant the world to Rick, Alan and John - And I think it did to Francis too, before the old differences and arguments resurfaced again.
Rick Roper.

There was a great moment in Wolves 2014 when RB started. When the drums came in it sounded really heavy, direct and so powerful - the band locked in like a train, with Bob seriously getting down...
Rick - for about 10 seconds - simply whoopped with excitement - it took him that time to get down and rock around with the others, because for a while, he was paralysed with pure excitement. I'd never seen the like in over 40 CQ gigs since 86.

Sorry to disagree but it was all a bit rough and macho.I felt so threatened that I went home and put some Rossi/Frost melodies on to calm me down.

Yeah I couldn’t believe that crowd I saw fk all due to them jumping around so much.Normally I’d have got to the barrier so I could get the best position for a nod and thumbs up.No chance that night so glad it went back to normal Cheers

I've no motive for starting this thread, just something I copped there While I agree with all but one of the things you say, and I 100% agree with the sentiment, I don't agree that Rick was "the new kid". I think the fact that the whole thing was a success was down to him! I don't want to provoke abuse, but I agree with Francis that Alan and John were only just up to the first FF tour - Rick was the one who held it all together and drove (in every sense of the word) the whole thing. He was seriously filling the bottom end and driving the rhythm - something a rhythm guitarist doesn't normally do. He REALLY wanted it to succeed. I think it was his finest hour. By the second tour Alan and John were much more into it and up to it and it was a better all round performance by the band.

I thought this was the best song in the set...…. I agree. Relentlessly great. They still had it.
