That's what came in the mail today. Brand new, cellophane unopened, with that fresh CD smell. I have never heard any of these anywhere but youtube. What a great day.

He could've waited for WYW to receive deluxe treatment next year... what does that mean, FH? - a remix or just some bonus tracks...? I don't know the details yet, but OTL, IYCSTH and WYW will be the next albums to get the 2-CD treatment. My assumption would be that disc 1 is a new remaster by Andy Pearce and disc 2 contains bonus tracks (Dave Ling, who has written the liner notes, has said the extras are 'superb'). My guess: OTL and IYCSTH will have live tracks and WYW could contain the American version aka "Now Hear This" which was (partially?) remixed for the US market.

The Other Side of Status Quo Blue For You Whatever You Want Just Supposin' Never Too Late Heavy Traffic In Search of the Fourth Chord Any thoughts on those albums yet AmQuo? Only superficial on 2 of them, since I really haven't had time to listen to the tracks more than once. TOSOQ surprised me a lot. I already knew some of the tracks were great, such as 'Lonely' and 'You Lost The Love', but tracks I had heretofore overlooked or disliked sounded drastically better. ISOTFC is MUCH better, and I already liked it. Damn, that album rocks! But while the drums are better than I had expected, I think it's the mix, the bass is one again just there, mostly kind of lifeless, and on most tracks I can't imagining how much better they would have been with JC and AL. However, the upside to that is the writing was largely top notch...some of them are Quo tracks like they were in the 70's, or maybe early 80's, and could have fit well into any of those albums. Color me impressed.

He could've waited for WYW to receive deluxe treatment next year... First, I didn't know about that, and second, it was $9, with free shipping. If I buy a remix later I'll pass this on to someone like a young lady I met yesterday at Costco. She was checking receipts as I was leaving and asked the obligatory 'how's your day going?' and I answered 'awesome, my Amazon Christmas order came today and I got 7 new cds.' "Really? What kind of music?" "Rock and roll, all from the greatest rock band you've never heard of." "I doubt that, sir, I've heard of all of them." "Status Quo." "Okay, you're right, I've never heard of them." "Write this down," I said. "Status Quo, 4500 times from the 'Hello' album. Check it out on youtube. If you don't like it, then you won't like them." "Who do they sound like?" "Wrong question. The right question is, 'who have I heard who has copied them?' "Thank you, sir, I'll definitely check it out when I get home."

ISOTFC is one of the rockiest CQ albums, and a lot on here like it - and I know what you mean somewhat, I think "Alright", with a JC drum pattern (as opposed to bum-chick bum-chick) and less monotonous bassline would be very reminiscent of 70's Quo - Rick really gets his rhythm going on that one. You've got it! I think that song has the wall of sound, sound, it rocks, but the bass and drums sound like studio musicians. Not bad, just not adding anything. Oh, and what the hell is up with The Oriental? Jesus God, what a horrible idea that was.

Oh, and what the hell is up with The Oriental? Jesus God, what a horrible idea that was. Completely agree with you on the Oriental - the worst lyrics ever written by Quo IMO. A few women on here don't like Run to Mummy or Big Fat Mama for their possibly mysogynistic lyric content - for me the O is worse. Yet it goes on and on at concerts - why? Heavy Traffic is a good song though, I must say, as is All Stand Up. I've said before that I think the best album the FF could make would be to take the best post 86 tracks and redo them. Can't you imagine Heavy Traffic with JC on drums and AL on bass? Or almost any other rocker? Beginning of the End with a Lancaster bass track and a good mix?

I'm pleased to hear that TOSOSQ was to your liking. I know when I purchased it myself, (mid 90's), I'd already heard of most of the tracks, (having got the singles they're from, plus an album called, 'To Be Or Not To Be', (which consisted of some non-album B-sides which remained unobtainable on CD until the 2000's), but became a firm favourite of mine at the time being able to listen to them all in compilation form.
Glad to know you're spreading the, 'gospel', of Quo, brother!

What's really sickening is to know that in 1975, when my hair was nearly to my waist and I would have looked like a proper quo fan, that they came to Memphis TWICE in two months, opening for ZZ Top. DAMN!!!! And then to learn they toured the states in 2005...but at least I found them now. I really can't imagine not having heard them now, what it would be like.

Color me impressed. I love ISOTFC but I'm not a fan of the mastering. I think it's the most compressed Quo album of all time, which makes the drums and bass lose impact. A friend of mine has bought the vinyl LP and said it sounds better from a dynamics POV. For what it's worth, I think the Pictures - Live at Montreux CD (not the complete concert unfortunately, the DVD has all the songs) is the best representation of Rhino's bass playing. They got it right with the mixing on that one at last.
