So, it was a night out for yours truly, a night that started with christmas lunching with friends at noon... at 7 I took myself to the club in Stockholms Old Town, Geronimo, via an italian restaurant for some catching up with the Quo friends.
The club was packed, and it was very hot.... Dehydration warning! Nothing that a heap of Pepsis couldn't cure.
I met another dear friend at the club, and the hours before stage time flew.
The band was introduced by Olle Östergårdh, a legend amongst Quofans in Sweden. He revealed that the first set was a complete rendition of the Quo-album, including flipping of the vinyl.... And the first surprise came:
A greeting from Alan Lancaster, wishing us a pleasant evening, praising of the band and the choice of setlist, a merry christmas and a happy New Year!! As the event was streamed, we all hoped that he was watching, and the cheering went skyhigh.
And Big Fat Mama came on. This band IS a time machine.. They took me back to the 70's with sound and approach.... and never let this slip away.... As we all know what's on Quo, I will just say that it was Fckeking terrific... From start to end. Lonely Man drew a tear... I'm getting soft..... And Loafer Man: If these guys can nail Break the rules, then I don't know what you were doing...
Total happiness, a brief chat with the band about future bookings and away with a storming second set of nothing newer than Rolling Home and ITABW. The pair of Ladies, Roll Over, etc.... One great thing: the audience was very mixed agewise, and the youngsters had just the kind of fun that we had at that age... Headbanging and jumping... great ambience...
Set ends with Big Fat Mama and we all wanted more! Bye Bye Johnny came and then it was over... The time machine let us off at 2017 again and it was time to hit the train home.... Oh, what a night it was!
If you have a chance.... see these guys! It is all about what the Quo was...
