Shame he didn't re-do Miss My Baby Probably would have been too much for him considering what he had been through. Though RPJ would have found it difficult enough to work with this track let alone one about his late sister.

Shame he didn't re-do Miss My Baby Thanks for posting those. Must admit I much prefer the new version. Interesting Rick wanted to revisit this track. As for the other track. The production is so of its time. It’s unlistenable to me, as lovely as his thoughts were. I now remember why it’s over a decade since I last played this if not longer, probably closer to two decades.

What a great song, listened to it & it reminded of that clip of him & Alan playing piano together. I'll shall listen to it again on Christmas day, that's when i heard the news of Rick here in Oz.

Jesus...
Positive, well mannered discussions on here...
Meanwhile, it's getting an absolute kicking over on the otherside, with one saying "He was high on drugs at the time and anything they wrote then was well under par"
It's almost like I've walked into a parallel universe

Is this the best track ever done, no, is it 'awful', no, it's a song by a man approaching 70 years old, near the end of his life, singing about the son he had lost for a while. I listened last night up loud on headphones, and it's well beyond 'restless' or similar pish. Still, I do enjoy a breakfast of the sanctimonious hypocrisy of some, served with a side order of insincerity.

It's Rick's unfinished business, and I wish it well and hope it gets some public attention. It's still weighed down with keys and noises, but perhaps that is what he liked. He had a genuine "cabaret" side. Still I wish he'd had the confidence to approach it like Quo originally approached "All the Reasons". It's how I feel about it as well, not really for me though I get the sentiments and the feelings it's generating in the fans. However I wonder would we still have thought that way about it IF it had been released in 1985. I think over the years it would have got a kicking as being "To sentimental".

Had to laugh when someone said that if Francis had done the song it would be ripped to shreds. Of course it would... cos he hasn't got the voice for it. Like he didn't have the voice for Restless. Another made a comparison to Tallulah's Waiting. Yes, the themes are the same but TW is a completely different song... A dull plodder at that. I guess we could get some fondue dweller saying that the ice cream van sounds in it are meant to reflect Francis' family past.

(I also saw Francis, in my mind's eye as I listened, saying with a smile, "I told you, this is who Rick was.) I thought so too!

A fabulous song. Quite different but this won't be a Quo album. Regardless of whether some studio magic has been applied to Rick's voice, I think it's a great vocal performance. Love the production. Very ELO. Rick was a huge Jeff Lynne fan so no surprises there.
Remember - the limited edition version will include the raw/original versions of these songs too so there should be some interesting comparisons.
Sad to hear the song and it must be very hard for RPJ to listen to it.
We're very lucky to get a genuine Rick Parfitt product and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it. The man was my hero so will be raising a glass to him every Christmas Eve from now on...

Must admit, Im quite pleased the acoustic show she was going to is cancelled. Due to ‘health reasons’. Insurance covers his cancelled gig, I bet. Probably made more money than the ticket sales. Im not saying it’s great cos it’s not. But nor is it how she describes it. His vocal is no worse than his Aquostic vocals. But she has an agenda. And blanks out anything that she doesn’t want to know. Like years ago when she accused me of hating all Germans just because I said Bayern Munich were corrupt.

Since yesterday I have listened to the song a few rimes and the original recorded version also included above.
The song has touched me and brought me to tears, probably a combination of the delicacy of the vocals and delivery, the poignancy of what the song is about and the reality that Rick is no longer around.
It also however demonstrates Ricks writing ability. Rossi has said that Rick tried to complicate things at times when they were writing together. It is a pity that Rossi perhaps frustrated some of the complicated side of Rick for it can be truly beautiful and mature. A style of song writing Rossi actually aspires to but remains an aspiration only...Rick however had it.
As some one who fully appreciates Leonard Cohen (for longer than Quo, since the early seventies) this song and future album of Ricks sounds special in the same way as Leonard Cohens last album was. Both were facing death in a way and this brought artistic brilliance and integrity.

I like the song. Will have to listen a few times to see if I ever love it.
Fantastic to hear his voice on something new whether it’s loved or not. Looking forward to the album.
