I did get goosebumps watching that again!
Perfection. The true heaviness and unique sound that returned when Lancaster and Coghlan were in the mix, demonstrating how absolutely fundamental they were to the Quo sound.
(only slight criticism is Rossi's guitar sound. He was playing well but his guitar sound is too processed or something...and of course he dislikes the music he was playing and is not honest or true, but you would never know!)

The nostalgic roughness made me feel unwell.I'll go and listen to Thirsty Work for some 'real' Quo.

I'm glad you posted this again. I've been feeling down about Quo recently and before I hit play, I wondered if I would feel goosebumps any more. Good news! I did.

You've obviously not heard the Girls Aloud version. I have...the version by The Saturdays kicks it's arse. Girls Aloud did it in the wrong key. Yale?

1. Not replaceable - absolutely correct - Rick was unique - his style, his set-up, his technique, etc. was totally unique. there is NO OTHER rhythm guitarist who plays like Rick did.
2. Rick made the reunions work musically. Francis is right in saying that John and Alan were "out of practice", especially at the first reunion tour. Rick stepped in and was the rock on which the band played - he really wanted it, stepped up and made it work - he did much more than a rhythm guitarist would normally do in the band framework. He was brilliant!
