The Aussie tour kicked off in style with the band's gig at The Star casino on the Gold Coast on Friday night. It was a decent sized audience and the first outing for the new set, including "Little Lady" (with vocals largely served by Richie Malone) and "Don't Drive My Car" (an electric version of the Aquostic version of the song). The band were in very good spirits and there were smiles aplenty, despite the somewhat reluctant audience (who sat for the vast majority of the gig, including the front rows - but a few of us front row dwellers at least stood from start to finish and the band played up to us a bit for that). An excellent opening gig.

I was there with my 9 year old son for his first Quo gig. All in all I thought it was pretty good, and one of the better times I've seen CQ. No real surprises in the set list (which I've added to setlist.fm btw) but that's not what they are about I guess.
I don't know if it was jet lag, but the band was certainly looser and less polished (i.e. made some mistakes) than the previous times I've seen them, but for me that made it far more interesting.
Sound quality was top notch, but could have done with being a tad louder.
All in all though, it was a great night out and my son said it was one of the best gigs he's been to :-)

The four-date Aussie leg of the "Last Night of the Electrics" tour kicked off at The Star casino on the Gold Coast on Friday 13th October. The 1800-seater theatre was home to around 1200 for this gig and Quo kicked off right on cue at 9pm. From the off, the band were clearly very relaxed and ready to enjoy themselves. This was the first outing for the new set, including "Little Lady" (with vocals largely served by Richie Malone) and "Don't Drive My Car" (an electric version of the Aquostic version of the song). Francis talked at length between songs, maybe to recover a bit and maybe just because he was enjoying himself. The audience remained largely seated (but for our very small pocket down on the front row in front of Rhino) until the "big four" closing out the first part of the set. More took to their feet for the encore, kicked off by "Burning Bridges", and the band received a great farewell during "Bye Bye Johnny". While Francis didn't seem too happy with the room's acoustics, they played well, seemed more relaxed than during last year's gigs and got a good reaction despite the lack of standing for most of the show. An excellent opening gig. www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/opinion/the-noticeable-omission-in-status-quos-performance-at-star-casino-in-broadbeach/news-story/5161285bd1f4e983915396cb621458ed

Opening night in Australia !! Never been a happy hunting ground for the Quo. Any hicups there R.D ? The gear didn't go missing ? Or the power ? There was one year there at Tweed Heads (which straddles the Queensland / New South Wales border ) where the venue was in New South Wales on 'Daylight Savings' time & several of the band went across town into Queensland which had 'standard' time. So 4 o'clock (N.S.W ) soundcheck rolled around & they'd lost half the band which was across the border where it was only 3 o'clock . Rock 'n' Roll, man !! I remember Rick telling that story. Even Spinal Tap couldn't have made that one up.
