Yeah of course it's easy to create that rocker image, it's not rocket science. Once you've got the means to be faster, louder and higher it's a piece of piss, especially with the backing of an army of admirers. Life is simple, and probably a bit superficial and unfulfilling.
I think Francis' comments are being deliberately misunderstood as if to mean Rick didn't want to be that guy...of course he did, he loved it. AND it helped him escape his demons. Bonus!
Francis means down down deeper n down there was a different Rick, one that was probably killed off by Rick Parfitt the rock star.
I've just finished reading Patty's book "Laughing All Over The World" again, and she talks of a massive shift in Rick's behaviour just when the success of Piledriver hit and the money started seriously coming in. And at that time a massive rift between Parfitt and Rossi occurred, from which they never recovered. Who knew? I wouldn't have guessed shit happened quite that early on....

It's like Phil Lynott he tried to be this Rocker off stage. However his true self showed in the early Lizzy work and the softer more folk type songs. Phil was a great frontman but tried to be a Rocker all the time and it led to his demise. Bonzo was another he was always homesick and became this wildman on tour.

I hate admitting this and only two people know this but(and without saying the word) I have had issues. I often wake up and feel it's me against the world. But, once I pick up a guitar and play music, everything is OK with the world...I know from listening and watching, Rick was in his element when playing the stuff he wanted to...There was no false personality there. You can see it from the look in his eyes. Sure, he obviously loved being in a band and it was an escape for him but, he was clearly into the music and it's the sort of music he loved. I saw footage of him playing Oh Baby with Leon and he fucking hated it. You can clearly see he wasn't liking it

I cannot understand why CQ took Oh Baby (and Blue Eyed Lady) and parodied those and brought them down to the same level as the general karaoke in their set - as the return to 'day job' follow-up to the FF reunion. The precedent set by the FF reunion(s) was enormous and the fans were buzzing with long pent up static after the gigs. It required extremely careful thought to avoid a cliff edge after those heights
But when bargain basement route one to the wallet is the only priority then such thought was whistling in the wind.
Choosing to do this at a critical time was surely the biggest own goal and the most stupidest wrong turn of many very stupid wrong turns this band made in recent years.
Why have they/did they never play their OWN back catalogue properly?! doh

I absolutely agree with your reference to their playing of back catalogue. Vey odd that Francis seems to dismiss it in favour of nostalgic Quo which he hates but which FFplayed much better which he thought was crap but thinks it's ok wit CQ... does that make sense?
