Thanks for the report! Not an English Heritage plaque then - I don't think Rick's brickwork was quite traditional enough for that

Was Francis busy elsewhere??
Or is this allowed to write,or is it none of my f*ckin business, should I just shut the f*ck up and let the current band members of the once great rock band Status Quo do whatever they want and just crawl back into my little cave and play the -76 live album very loud all to myself?
Well the future will tell.... I asked this in another thread....Didn't want to start it here in this one... But, it's absolutely disgraceful he wasn't there today. Then again, we know RPJ has no time for him and Spud, from what I gather, isn't too fond of him either so maybe he wasn't there because of that That's possible, isn't it. And as for the rehearsals - as far as i can make out, this event was scheduled in "BBC Time" ... there's a saying (best applied to weddings etc.) "if you want someone to be there, ask them when they can do it." At least give them an option.

They are doing themselves no favours in the long run by not paying tribute to Rick at gigs or showing up to events dedicated to him 6 months on. Other people who were friends of Rick must be questioning Francis i know he is not that liked by members of Queen as someone said on here a while ago & other people in the rock world. No wonder Rossi is not respected outside of Porter and Whino & co.

It was a fantastic event. Kept pretty secret until the last minute (well a few days before). Very moving unveiling and Rick Jnr did his father proud! Coughlan was there and obviously Patty was in attendance. A number of fans attended. I really really enjoyed it.

That's true...according to sssssome ;-), but I believe 'arkward' is a better word to describe the absence of Francis and the band, as in Rick Jr and co. would've been very uncomfortable at the sight of them there from what we've read of a possible stand off. Btw was Lyndsey and the twins there?

Coughlan was there and obviously Patty was in attendance. A number of fans attended. I really really enjoyed it. Agree with Wolfie. I did catch a train out to Woking last Thursday and the event was very moving. For those of use who went, it meant a lot to know that Rick was being honoured in this way, and on the same day that many other famous musicians such a Bowie were being honoured by the BBC Music Day. Rick Jnr did indeed do his father proud. He has such a lovely, open nature. And after the unveiling, he posed tirelessly with fans for photo ops. He didn't simply turn up and leave. Towards the end, in a quiet moment, I went up to him and thanked him and he was equally genuine. John brought Gillie and two members of his band. Patty and Jackie Lynton were also there. Plus familiar faces of fans I've seen at few gigs. I shared a few lovely memories of Jackie's, while we waited for the event to start. He was so delighted for Rick and said that Rick would have been too. I also spoke to many locally based fans or people who knew Rick while he lived in Woking. That felt rather special. And yes, there were murmurs of whether Francis would turn up. And fans thought he should. I also was impressed by the BBC radio's coverage of this event as they were equally keen to capture fans memories of Rick and Quo. They roamed with a iphone recording the interviews you've seen online. This was not simply, turn up, speak and disappear. This was an event that lasted around 40 minutes. My apologies for not writing this up earlier. I saw the great photos (far better than mine from the back) that 4th had posted from John's fb page. And knew that was covered. I've been very upset by the fire in London and thinking about that ever since. However, I realised that I wasn't been fair to you all sharing the positive vibes and love from this event. Don't believe the naysayers, this was good for Rick.

Yes thanks curiousgirl, lovely write up. I'm glad you were able to go and that the event was so positive in memory of Rick. I would have gone as well but I've had to have so much time off work recently, I couldn't really. Hopefully catch up with you again soon!

There is the short clip on Quo's fb page about Rick's blue plague being unveiled, it was posted on the morning of the unveiling at 10am. I can't find the clip elsewhere online but I was surprised when I watched because it shows this young chap called Newton Faulkner saying, "and the winner of Radio Surrey's blue plaque is (opens an envelope) Rick Parfitt." I didn't know it was a competition. (why I should be surprised as everything is one these days but...) And then I found this press release from Feb 2017, where local radio stations were asking their listeners for suggestions for the blue plaque. Its great that this plaque has come from the fans wishes. I think that would have pleased Rick too. www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2017/music-day-blue-plaques

That's all down to interpretation which is why I dread posting on this board any more! Yep it was just a blue plaque being unveiled! That's it! Sorry to embellish it into something it obviously wasn't.
