I think there will be a Memorial at some point but not this year. It took Deep Purple 2 years to do a tribute to Jon Lord. He died in 2012 and the tribute concert took place in 2014.

I think that is likely. This summer would have been far too soon. It's not about the newspaper reports, it's not a fundraiser, there is no urgency. It's not just about the core fans either, it has to be about everyone who appreciated him and his whole career. They will wait till the dust settles and they can plan it properly. Something written on the other side made me think about this. We are still in the shadow of Rick's illness (which was longer than we thought at the time) and death, and the family are still in a degree of turmoil. That in particular must be given time for them to resolve. Next summer at the earliest, then. No NOT Christmas Eve! I can't see how that would work for anyone. (I will be with my family AFAE - there are other imperatives too.) It's better to think about this on a nice sunny breezy day like today I couldn't on a gloomy day.

Right, so that's a Saturday in 2018 (which also has the advantage of not being 2017) ... someone drop the management a line. Derry, you're good at that kind of thing

There will be no Memorial Event. Its not Freddie Mercury we talk about. I really love and miss Rick but it wont happen.

I'll have a bottle of red to celebrate Rick's birthday, then the trip to Minehead the following day for the weekend Quo convention. Can't wait

Agree he's no Freddie Mercury but I have no doubt he's up there with his peers in the business. Imo I can't believe the total lack of respect Quo have given Rick in appreciation of his 100 percent commitment to Quos live performances for nigh on 50 years...he gave everything that the audience expected for those gigs. The last time i saw him in Sydney back in 2013, it was very warm in the Hordern Pav, and you could see the band were feeling it...except mighty Rick in that leather jacket..red faced and absolutely giving it everything!! Why they couldn't just, say fly Alan over, get John down and along with CQ just play a gig somewhere to reflect and let old time punters let it out is beyond me. It really didn't need to be an over the top affair. I feel the moment has passed and it really is a shame.

I'd be glad to sit/stand in a venue amongst Quo fans whilst they show highlights of Ricks career and talk about him, as opposed to a live performance.
