I've been on to the official Quo site to remind myself and I don't think so.
1) I can't see the band on the cover of Dog.
From Piledriver to Live - the band feature. Either complete or sans John on Piledriver.
From RAOTW to BtB and the split - no band members at all.
AC has new complete line-up.
And then RTYD has Rick and Francis.
So, no I don't think your analysis is correct.

1) I can't see the band on the cover of Dog. You are Curious but shockingly unobservant - it's been around for most of our lifetimes and you need to look again! I think this is a really interesting OP - and I think I go along with it to some degree as we do judge 'books by covers' and we do take things at face value -to may tastes, the album covers went the same way as the content of the albums from Live onward.

I went by the dominant image on the Quo website. But a) I've never owned the vinyl copy of this album. And b) looking again, they hardly feature prominently. There are 4 tiny photos hidden in each corner. Doesn't say to me that this cover is about members of the band.

I remember the media leading upto the EOTR and being surprised to see Alan being interviewed along with Rick and Francis. By then the other two had already become the public face of the band. I don't see any of the album covers pre RTYD as a slight on any other band member. But after AC, I no longer wanted to see all of the band

I agree, the 4 members of the band are indeed "hidden" on the front cover :-)
oh come on, you must be slightly embarrassed - it's the way you set it up with your official sounding "1)" I can't see the band......and now you are saying "dominant image"
I will take your word about not being unobservant but do you mind if I drive if we ever meet?

I'm sorry.... "official sounding..." that is entirely your interpretation of my comment. I take responsibility for my views. I said what I saw. So what... I made a mistake.. You sounded equally pompous by saying I was "shockingly unobservant!" I see the dominant image as the dog with 2 heads. That is what draws my eye. If I had owned that album cover, I'm too young to have bought it at the time, then I would have known every inch of it. I doubt we ever will meet.

When I meet the band at the Polygon Hotel in Southampton, where I stayed for a couple of nights to see the band at the Gaumont Theatre on the End Of The Road '84 tour, I was standing by the doorway as Francis & Rick were recording an interview with Southern Television, Alan came over to me and said "it's always them on any interviews" and then he got into the lift and back to his room.

Hi All, Carl, In answer to your question NO! If you are a fan of the band it's the music firstly all the members playing the music you like surely ? secondly individual members to me never enter my head I look at the band as a whole and their music.
It's only since all the shenanigans of the departures of Alan and John that has highlighted Rick and Francis as individuals, they being the two remaining original members it was obvious they would front the band but possibly a snub to the CQ members at the same time on their return.
Having said the above CQ have appeared on the covers every now and then but to me it's all about the music I only get concerned with individuals when one is ill or one or the other band member makes a cutting remark about whoever FF or CQ.....
Geoff.

Maybe I could have put the OP better - what I really meant was: did the pre-RAOTW covers, keep Alan's face alive in the mind of the public? Hi All, Carl, GET OORRFFF MY LAND!!! Only me allowed to brain fart........

Maybe I could have put the OP better - what I really meant was: did the pre-RAOTW covers, keep Alan's face alive in the mind of the public? Possibly but after RAOTW Alan moved to Oz and that made it a little more difficult for him to do promo work for the band when they were not all together. Rick and Francis became the face of the band though before he left I think Spud did do some band promo work on Tiswas.

I remember when AL was supposed to appear on Noel Edmonds swap shop but got snowed in and couldn't make it.They did the telephone interview but I was gutted because I always wondered what he sounded like and what he had to say.

Fair enough point about not owning the vinyl album - the pics ARE tiny on smaller image of cover. Sorry.

One wonders whether this was done deliberately as part of a long term plan to ease Alan out?
