The FF could/could certainly have got away with playing a decent chunk of a song like Slow Train and then 'editing' it into another song. Rather like 4500X at the reunions for example. But then they are the authors of these songs and created the brilliant spontaneity and full-on rock jamming feel that made them classics in the first place.
Its not the same at all if CQ copy FF songs, and then then truncate them into a medley of other songs, and these songs in turn are amix of commercial hits and cover songs from other artists! There is so much dilution going on, it adds to the feel of a tribute gig.
CQ choosing to ignore their own vast back catalogue in favour of this tribute/entertainment/copy and paste theme only magnifies the feel of them being a live karaoke band.
This takes the topic off at a tangent (again) but every time a thread raises the subject of discussing/comparing old classics, one is reminded that (other than the reunions which offered a chance to hear the originals played by the originals) there is only video footage and the albums themselves to play as testimonials to these great songs. Hearing them as part of a commercial 'Stars on 45' is hardly a substitute.
