Hey Everyone, First time I heard AB blues was 1988, I swapped another single for it with a guy I worked with, when I got it home to the record player I was so disappointed, because at the very beginning it seemed to be broken with something stuck in the groove so of course I pressed the needle down to see if it would remove it and help, but it always had that weird intro, I tried cleaning it with methylated spirits, rubbing alcohol, anything I could think of, but nothing ever helped I still have that single, there's a visible line around the outside edge where I pressed the needle down repeatedly trying to fix it. It was only years later I got a cd called the other side of Status Quo and realised there was nothing wrong with my single, that was just the way it started Did anyone else think that or am I just really dumb? While I'm on AB blues has anyone found out what the AB stands for? I've heard Andy Bown, A B (side) blues Cheers

A B probably stands for the chords

A B probably stands for the chords
The chords used are mostly G major, C major and F major.
I always wondered myself what the A B was for though - you can't hear any keyboard on A B Blues. Could he have played guitar or bass on it?

The odd sound at the beginning of AB Blues had been engineer/producer John Eden quickly firing the tape machine up during a band jam. He realised the magic moment would be worth capturing on tape.
He also thought it would be an ideal B side as all band members including JC and Andy would get a slice of the Royalties.

Don't know much about this track other than it was recorded at Rick's studio i think? That is correctimondo gav. Just Supposin' and the majority of Never Too Late had been recorded in Dublin. However AB Blues, Carol and Something 'bout You Baby had been recorded at Rick's newly completed home studio/games room. Large enough space to have the full band set up rather than at Rossi's smaller loft studio. Incidently, Graham Bonnet's Night Games and his Line Up album had also been recorded at Rick's manor.

Kudos to John for pressing the record button or we'd never have got to hear it.

I wonder if they realised they were a few songs short for Never to late and went in a banged out a couple of covers, alought a lot of work and tracks on SBYBIL. And Francis produced at least a couple of songs on Line up too. Does anyone know if he produced the Demis Roussos version of Sorry?

Although it was written by the Rossi / Frost partnership and they both did BV's on Demi's version and some instrumentation for it also.

Ah Yes, 'AB Blues'... where Quo came to a fork in the road - one road was, 'Where your music and fame came from' and the other was 'Where money and Pantomime are...'
[Shrug] So... 'money and Pantomine' it was... Pity.

By coincidence, Quoincidence... have just been watching that interview with Colin Johnson. He mentions that he had a song that he thought would have been ideal for Quo to record but didn't have Rossi's current number. He asked Dave Mackay (friend of Rossi) if he could get in contact with Francis on his behalf so that he could put the idea to him.

Yeah, and you can hear Francis counting the song in, which makes me think he might have played guitar, at least acoustic on it, can't mistake his and Bernie's vocals on it. I always prefered the slower tempo on this, the version on Thirsty Work always sounded too fast to my ears.

The A and the B are probably the first letters of the names of two Germans they met....
