Back in the day when RAOTW came out, I enjoyed it. Always happy to have a bop when it came on. Not my fav Quo track now but after Live Aid it is one of the tracks that defines the band. Another reason the fans, to differing degrees, resent it. The song is a long long way from dozens of better songs Offstage, the bands visual impact has been poor since after live aid. No TV appearances look good, the band needs stage lighting etc. If Quo had been on TV 100 times miming to paper plane, doubt we'd feel the same way about the song

I’m not sure it defines them, that’s a generational thing. However that’s probably nit picking as my Mam would say. Amazing how many people know them as the song about the Army band. But it is a song that will always be associated with them. Its a canny pop rock song. I don’t dislike it, I wouldn’t choose to listen to it. Unlike Whatever,Caroline, Down Down or What your proposing I’d happily listen to any of them. In truth I only do when I listen to the albums and hear them in context. Rockin is an album I rarely play. For me it’s the first of the Non Frantic Four albums.

How’s To be fair that had been the case at least in the UK well before Live Aid when they decided to promote themselves as light entertainment. Never saw a serious rock act on Little and Large or other dreadful shows.
Then the real decline when the tv company just wanted them playing a Rockin years after its sell by date. As with Bake off.

Yep, paradiseflats - you are nit-picking. In terms of the casuals, if you asked them to name Status Quo songs- one would be RAOTW and another would be ITAN. And a 3rd WYW. That is my definition of the terms above, "defines the band." I am not using it to define their sound.

RAOTW wasn't bad at all. I'm glad the audience enjoyed it, good for all involved.

The dancing crowd was enough for me.
