I’m going to say something controversial...I think it’s completely overrated as an album.
Mad About the Boy and Ring of a Change are completely average and Ease Your Mind is another example of the dichotomy of what what Alan wanted Quo to be and the songs he increasingly wrote.
So, three out of nine songs which are under par is too high a percentage to be classed along with eg Hello.
There’s a lot to like though.
Is there a Better Way just rocks. Rain and a Mystery Song are classics.
That’s a fact is so nifty and I love the slight tome shifts.
The guitar work on Rolling Home is great.

Always wanted a Coca Cola T shirt because of this album. It was a famous ski Team T from OTL

I guess because I came to Quo through their singles and the live shows, I've never had a real relationship with any of the albums other than Hello and Piledriver.
Blue For You has a special place because it unleashed ITABW on the world just when I needed it. (It took me a bit longer to catch up with Mystery Song.)
I don't like the ballads on BFY. Funny it has some of their best songs, and their worst songs, up to that point, for me. Which is weird!

You said something very crucial above for me with saying "it unleashed ITABW into the world just when I needed it"... that's one of the special connections I have had through time with this band...they put out several songs exactly when I needed them ! 2. Like you I don't like the ballad and for me also Ease your mind either...never have and for me the title song and ease your mind are amongst the worst for me personally. I know others love them but I never have.

Just been playing the CD. On the album cover its Mystery Song. On the inner sleeve lyrics its The Mystery Song. Is this the same on the vinyl ? I think I have always called it The Mystery Song , well most of the time.
Statto , I'll go get my anorak!
Blue for You (the track) has been a bit of a grower over the years. Sounds a bit daft but I like the ending before the Riff of the mighty Rain kicks in . Really works .

Just read on Spuds facebook site that Terry O'Neil , the guy who took the photo's on Blue For You, amongst others has sadly passed away. RIP

At least on my copy.

Just revisiting this one. Always one of my favs, and that includes the title track - beautiful chords like in B.B. King's best blues ballads, stellar guitar work from Francis. But having said that, the vocals are not the strongest. They're low in the mix and I think Alan's voice was maybe not so well suited to it. Anybody think Rick on vocals could've worked better?

Superb! One of the key albums that introduced me to the band.
I love the velocity and intensity of Ring Of a Change & Rollin' Home. Swaggering stuff. Rain & ITABW, due of excellent heavy rockers as compelling now as they must have sounded then.
Mystery Song - fantastic, Quo at their lightning best. The album version may be my pick as best Quo song.
The only track not quite as great is Mad About the Boy. Good, but if thay had been replaced by the wonderful You Lost the Love, BFY would be a perfect record.
Ease Your Mind & Title track are favourites, the guitar work on both is wonderful.
A classic Quo release.

frozenhero and asthequoflies , it's great to see you two post in this thread so long after it started originally ! I have enjoyed doing these album threads but it would be even better if people indeed keep coming back to these theads after revisiting albums after a long time and that way have them become continuous threads
