It's really nice to see that the album is generally getting some good and positive reviews and opinions...that has been a while. To be fair, since Prid pro quo Same people making the same responses pretty much. QPQ is till great! It's such a shame that it is so badly mixed to the point were you almost can't listen to it..

I made no comment on the album. However you did, how can it be great if its almost unlistenable. An albums production is part of the album. If the production is bad so is the album whatever the merits of the songs.

Shame the band didn’t put the same effing effort into the past 25 years. Pleased it’s a decent album but mightily pissed off at the same time at the wasted years coasting on past glories. I firmly believe that the bashing of the band that a few have been complaining about recently, really was borne out of the genuine frustration of knowing what the band were capable of and always seeing them fall short and take the easy route of gimmicks and stale set lists, not helped by those who seemed to lap up all the novelty shite. It frustrates as well that STILL the promo videos for the album still adopt the ‘band larking about’ approach. Why not take the music seriously, like they have with this album finally? Yep, lot of truth in that post mate. I certainly have felt and still feel a lot of that as well. I try to concentrate as much as I can though on the music of this one and just enjoy it 'cos I don't want the anger about past years to spoil the enjoyment I feel about this one. But yea, I wish too that they could have done this a lot sooner. At least they did now.

I agree with this. But how can a band pull together if the 2 key members didn't get on? I'm not pointing the blame at either of them but it can't have helped. I'm remembering that C4 doc and seeing how far apart Rick and Francis were in those days, 2001. I'm on my 3rd listen and I hear a band all pulling together. Really sad for me to think of it like this but I'm sure this affected their recorded music. As for the their promo - that's still rubbish as we know and I have no idea how much say they have or if they'd swallowed the line that any publicity is good publicity. Sadly I suspect the latter. But.. another thought springs to mind, I suspect its been hard for Francis to take his music seriously when its not that popular. He's determined and hasn't given up which I admire him for. But if people don't like the stuff that is close to your heart, and prefer the other tracks you write but you are less keen on, then I think he lost his way. He is the driving force when it comes to the albums.

Larking about is entertainment, fine in small doses but really difficult to get control of if your public get to liking it. A lot of bands got caught in this loop in the 60s. To be fair, I think they were more frustrated with it than the public were. Iron Maifdn managed to spoil their excellent "Death or Glory" live a coupla years back by letting the monkey larks take it over ... I got round to singing "f* the bloody monkey" every time the refrain came around ...

I think they've been trying to promote it like a rock album... The cover art, the B&W promo shots. They've even got Francis to take his suit off for some of them 😂 But none of that really matters now does it? The publics perception of the band isn't going to change now I'm really enjoying the album but I'm struggling visually. I saw liberty lane on ITV and found it hard to watch - sorry but Francis looked too old and to me the bands visual impact is dead. Onstage it's dark, there's stage clothes (!) and its still recognisbaly the Quo of the last 30 years. Offstage the identity has been lost Not sure I'm likely to enjoy any promo now whatever they do, sorry! I also think the album is laced with fun, it's not a 100% serious rock album.

50 years on still in the public eye and still a creditable band.
They have changed as have I.
I take my hat off to them and admire them greatly.
Oh and by the way quite like the album☺

So, I've had a 3rd listen and still positive. Richie's main song is becoming one of my big favourites. And then I decided to listen again to QPQ which I haven't listened in its entirety since it came out. It starts off well, but does get relentless after the 4th track. So this new one does feel like a step forward for me. Is there a genre called "pop/rock" ? That came to mind during my 3rd listen. Lots of fun melodies that would work equally well as a pop song but with more of a rock sound. And finally, while I love the music of Waiting for a Woman, I finally listened to those lyrics... I see what you mean Mrs F. Not great. Sort of redeemed by the 3rd verse but if I hadn't been into the music, I might have skipped it.

I won’t open a can of worms but to me they have always had that but 77 onwards it increased and since 84 the pop dominated the rock at least mostly. Personally have listened to it twice. Which is enough. It’s alright but there is so much other music to listen to. Tool after all have just released a masterwork.

I know they’re sort of a rock band. But they are a light rock band . They have or at least Francis has cultivated the jokey image. Accountants playing pop rock. They and those in the front rows love the cabaret presentation. Does Rhino still point for no reason and dance like a chicken ? They are what they are now. Not my Status Quo. The brand is over 50 years old but this band is not.

It's really nice to see that the album is generally getting some good and positive reviews and opinions...that has been a while. There seems to be a lot of consensus in the above comments, both negatives (eg drum volume) and positives (consistency). I guess we all need something positive in our lives when the news/political backdrop in this country is so absurd (albeit 'first world problems rather than humanitarian tragedy elsewhere), so as a number of us have said, how the album will sound some while later is an interesting one. I have to observe that I said 'not one howler', but now realise that can only apply to the non-deluxe version, as I later listened to Crazy Crazy on YouTube and had that sadly familiar feeling of "Oh, dear, oh no..." in a word 'daft' (Quo should feel vulnerable to claims against them under the Trades Descriptions Act for "Bonus" ). But I will ignore that bogus track and won't let it detract from what I feel and have said about what is their best album in a very long while, and meanwhile I will try not to play it to death (but I have a long car journey today, so that's going to be a challenge)! I actually like Crazy Crazy, but definitely think it should be on a Rossi solo or duet album and NOT a Quo album. Problem is because he wrote it with Andrew it was not likely to end up on any of his solo stuff. Like you say, it's not on the 'real' album, so pretend it never happened and skip it!

As much as I like Ritchie, the loss of Rick massively affected their image as a rock band, especially on stage.
