I picked it up today (in a bloody supermarket, hence no bonus tracks version) Just a few quick notes as I want to give it more time. Cut Me Some Slack & Liberty Lane are the best things on it IMO....two very strong modern-era Quo tracks, CMSS really gets the head moving! Richie's Get Out of My Head probably my next favourite.
Waiting For a Woman is indeed a curious opener, I think it's the wrong choice. I'm also maybe a teeny bit disappointed with the Rossi/Young tunes - they're usually an album highlight for me (it's the ultimate writing team, after all) but not on this record, so far. I do like I Wanna Run away With You though. I'm not keen on the title track, it hasn't grown on me at all, I suspect others will.
Production is ok, though maybe lacks a little oomph, at the vocals seem a wee bit 'buried'. Might just be my shite stereos though! Nice packaging - simple & effective design. I don't like the covers of Heavy Traffic, Party Ain't Over Yet or Quid Pro Quo much at all, and In Search of the Fourth Chord has possibly the worst album cover of all time, so I'm glad they've made it look like a rock record.
Will check back in with more thoughts.

Backbone, previously a turd standing alone, fits nicely in the context of this album. A very assured, shot in the arm debut from Richie in Get Out Of My Head. Most impressed!
There are some weak spots, but it works very well as a whole album. It's preferrable to listen to it like that and not single out individual tracks.
I honestly didn't think they had it in them at this stage. Was quietly sceptical until now. Still not sure if i'd go to see them live as it would still mostly be a hits set, but here's a thought. Could Richie carry on the band after Francis retires? Very controversial i know...
Anyway, let's see if this lasts...

Like most albums, there are some definite weak spots... But overall, I think it's a good effort. On first listen, I certainly appreciate it more than QPQ, ISOTFC, TPAOY etc.
Backing Off is the track I enjoyed the most.
I'll need to live with it for a period of time before I can give a definitive verdict. But I think there's a couple of tunes there to enjoy, which is good enough for me, I suppose..

I’ve listened to the first seven songs.. I have to say each one has a great guitar “hook” or riff.
Say what you want about Rossi... he knows how to write a catchy tune.
Better than I thought it would be so far...

It's really nice to see that the album is generally getting some good and positive reviews and opinions...that has been a while.

I know I've mentioned this before, but I would like to see The album get to number 6 in the UK album charts, as this is only position where a Quo album hasn't peaked in the Top 10 and by coincidence the band have had a single peak in every position except number 6 in the UK singles Top 10 chart.

It's really nice to see that the album is generally getting some good and positive reviews and opinions...that has been a while. There seems to be a lot of consensus in the above comments, both negatives (eg drum volume) and positives (consistency). I guess we all need something positive in our lives when the news/political backdrop in this country is so absurd (albeit 'first world problems rather than humanitarian tragedy elsewhere), so as a number of us have said, how the album will sound some while later is an interesting one. I have to observe that I said 'not one howler', but now realise that can only apply to the non-deluxe version, as I later listened to Crazy Crazy on YouTube and had that sadly familiar feeling of "Oh, dear, oh no..." in a word 'daft' (Quo should feel vulnerable to claims against them under the Trades Descriptions Act for "Bonus" ). But I will ignore that bogus track and won't let it detract from what I feel and have said about what is their best album in a very long while, and meanwhile I will try not to play it to death (but I have a long car journey today, so that's going to be a challenge)!

Yea, Crazy Crazy is a track Rossi should have used for a solo album...on the other hand Face the music should have been on the album. I have a feeling for myself that the album won't sound boring to me in the future either. Good points you make in the first part of your post also

So, judging by these reports, this new album has not a 7-10 minute classic on it like Railroad,4500x and Slow Train. Hmm!

Never listen to it now. It’s one of their better poppy albums. Seems a long time ago now. I guess my view of the band is the same. I’m not keen on pop rock. And as I grow older. I prefer my music rawer and more extreme. Just like I never liked Dire Straights.

Shame the band didn’t put the same effing effort into the past 25 years.
Pleased it’s a decent album but mightily pissed off at the same time at the wasted years coasting on past glories.
I firmly believe that the bashing of the band that a few have been complaining about recently, really was borne out of the genuine frustration of knowing what the band were capable of and always seeing them fall short and take the easy route of gimmicks and stale set lists, not helped by those who seemed to lap up all the novelty shite. It frustrates as well that STILL the promo videos for the album still adopt the ‘band larking about’ approach. Why not take the music seriously, like they have with this album finally?
