Creative guitar work is long long gone - sadly.

Having listened to this a few times now through a decent set of speakers, imo this is the best Quo album for a long long time. I can’t remember the last album I listened to where there aren’t any “skippers” (probably OTL or BFY). The melodies just nail themselves to your brain, which for me has always been a big part of Quo’s music. The production (for me) is also very good, there are always things you could say could be better (for instance some of the backing vocals) but overall I would give this album an 8. The album was never going to be a balls out heads down rocker but for a band at this stage in their careers it’s an excellent effort. Of course everyone will have their own opinions, and as always in the Quo camp there will be a very wide spread, but for me I will gladly take another album from this line up if this is the quality they are going to produce.

I really like it, I did have to rearrange the track order though. Liberty Lane & I See You're In Some Trouble is my initial favorites. Cut Me Some Slack is really good as well. Well done!

Wasn't a massive fan of Liberty Lane on first listen. Thought I'd wait for the album release but expected it to be just as lacklustre.
I tried so hard not to like this album. So hard.
I mean - to like it would surely be a betrayal to Rick Parfitt's memory. Why would a dyed-in-the-wool FF fan like me want to listen to this? Especially after the Aquostic/Bula fiascos.
No, I told myself. Not interested. Not-even-going-there.
So what happened?
Contrary to all my expectations, this is not a bad album at all. Nearly kills me to say it, but it's true. There are subtle shades of Perfect Remedy and Thirsty Work, sure, but there are lots of moments when the band rock as hard as they ever have. Quo are just gently reinventing their sound, just like they had to in 1977, 1982, in 1988, in 2002 or whenever. They sound invigorated and fresh, and that is something to be very grateful for. Sure, they don't sound as vital and urgent as they did when they were young and hungry for success, and who could reasonably expect them to?
Being critical, the vocals are overall a bit too low in the mix, so are the guitars - but the band sound full of life in a career when they have often sounded like they were on their deathbeds. The harmonies are excellent too - always a strong point of Quo's.
The band I had given up for dead after Bula Quo have pulled yet another surprise out of the bag. It might be the last, but on the other hand, it probably won't. Well done, lads.

Just listened to it for the first time. Is it FF? (No) Is it as good as FF? (No) but they're burnt on my brain as the best band in the world that hooked me forever in my teens. Nothing ever will or can compare.
Quo have been post FF (or Quo lite) now for longer than they were FF and measured on that, this is actually an enjoyable listen and a good album. As good as they've been in years and as good as we can realistically expect I think.
Had read a lot of luke warm reviews of waiting for a woman but I was pleasantly surprised - Wait Just a Minute Part 2. Which I always liked. Only took 51 years!
Miss Rick though. But that was inevitable. A more than decent effort and I'm not knocking it.

Good album, no doubt. Possibly very good, but too soon to say
So far I love about half of it. The rest I like or don't mind. Nothing that embarasses...
There's no single song I'm going potty over, if I made a best of compilation from the last 35 years I'm not sure any of these would make it. But as an album it fits together nicely and has good sound. Small niggles but generally a good production
Some I'm skipping already. What I hope is that in the years ahead this will last as an album that's good to listen to from start to finish. Think the skippers maybe good for occasional listens.
Running out of time is the weakest track imo, reminds of the winner. I'm listening via apple music so don't have the bonus tracks
This album ends decades old criticism of mine - that SQ live are so different to studio Quo. Not so now. This is not a heavy rock album, but just like the live band it is loud and fun. And there's sweet FA wrong with that!

I have played the album several times again today and it's not boring me at all, very much to the contrary. The only ones I will possibly skip in the coming future are Backbone and Carzy Crazy...but the rest I really enjoy big time. Face the music and I see you're in some trouble are big time favorites, followed by Cut me some slack, Waiting for a woman , Backing off and Get out of my head

I've listened through twice now. And overall, nice variety of music and production. Well done Frame on that. And they do sound like they all enjoyed the recording of this. And there is the variety - of pace and in song that was missing on QPQ. More like HT and ISOFTC for me overall.
My favourite tracks are the ones least Quo like. Waiting for A Woman - nice and quirky, but it still has that Quo bounce. A bit like Blues and Rhythm. Backing Off - I enjoyed Andy's last solo album and I love his influence here. And Richie's song Get Out of My Head is excellent too. Without trying to copy Rick, he has gone for a big emotional number that Rick often went for. That is brave thing to do.
Least fav- Backbone title track.
And whilst I think they are imaginatively recorded, on 2nd listen, I was less keen on Cut Me Some Slack and Liberty Lane.
It does still sound like Quo, but later Quo and its consistent with those later albums.
I think Rick would have been pleased that the band is surviving and being respected. Well, I do hope he would be.

OK fellow Quo fans, the recent above posts have invigorated me enough to go to my record shop and order the CD this morning. I’m looking forward to playing it in my car nice n loud. Cheers.

One good thing I can say is that this album has probably the highest low level since NTL. Unfortunately there ain't no really great songs either and it might be their lowest high level as well (haven't heard Bula Quo).
After the first listen I actually think Falling of the World is one of the strongest tracks. Didn't like Get Out of My Head or Running Out of Time that much.
Over all the production is OK I think. The solo guitar tone is a little weak. The drums are mixed more like a pop kit than a rock kit. I want more attack in the snare.
Don't think this album would have sounded much different with Rick in the band other than he might have contributed as a songwriter on a medium good rocker. The rhythm guitar may have been a little bit higher in the mix if he still was here.
I will listen some more time this week. Then I am afraid I won't return to it for years if ever.

I'm not convinced by the drum sound either
Overall though the sound is good. It manages to be very produced but still sounds good enough and still sounds like a Quo album
I normally get easily annoyed by keys or strange backing vocals but nothing here bothers me
