What an album, I consider this the beginning of Quo. Some great songs here, who can argue with Umleitung and Railroad. Cheers

Great album. -Umleitung is a great opening track. I like when they just jam over one chord for minutes and still makes it interesting. How many bands can do that? To bad they stopped writing like that. -Nanana is maybe not a favorite but it should fit the record if only played once. They should have recorded three different versions of the track instead of using the same recording three times. -Something's going on in my head has a really nice riff and great solo. Good song. -Mean Girl has never been a favorite. Little bit to energi maybe. -Gerdundula is an odd track. Can be fun sometimes but not great. -Railroad has a brilliant riff. Like the heavy ending of the song a lot. -Someone's Learning is heavy and great! Like the dynamics between the two riffs.

Favourite Quo Album: On The Level

I love the production on this one. It's particularly slick relative to the two albums that bookend it. Still earthy, but not too raw.
Only the second album in to their new direction, and it's stuffed full of classics. Even Nanana was reprised for Aquostic, so it must have something going for it! - maybe the personal lyrics.

Not in my top 10 of Quo albums. It’s a wee twidly for my liking. And has dated badly. I much prefer Ma Kellys. Has much better songs on that imo and that album still has an Indy feel about it ! I don’t dislike the Dog album though.. I love SGOIMH. Just love Francis vocals on that track. Great melody ! It’s probably Quo’s darkest / moody album. So, good but not great for me.

The improvement in song writing for me between Ma Kelly’s and the Dog is marked.
Umleitung a cracking song. Such a great song live.
The production is raw but that to me enhances the songs.
Rossi’s voice almost folky in those days. Was great. Sounded almost fragile at times. Always loved hearing Alan encourage him on an outtake version of Nanana.
They would go on to greater heights but a major stepping stone. Give me this over anything after ‘76.

I can't remember when I heard this album the first time,probably -75 or -76.
Only 7 songs, with Nanana played three times, well Tommy only two..
Umleitung,SGOIMH,Railroad and Someone's Learning is propably all in my top 20 Quo chart.
Weird album but it was like they were 'Almost but not quite there'...

Even though Quo were not featured on the programme until a few years later, in my head I think of Dog Of Two Head as Quo's Old Grey Whistle Test album!
The album name, the album cover, the sense of a concept album especially with the reprise of Nanana would have sounded just right being talked about by whispering Bob Harris! In my mind I can imagine the band playing tracks from the album in the OGWT studio and looking and sounding the business. Completely in tune with those times.
Alan L had some interesting ideas and some of his best work, for me, on this album.
