I like the House. It has potential with a reworking by Francis and his band. Would be an appropriate honour to Bernie.

One of life's hard realities is that it's too often someone's 'passing' which brings to light something hitherto unseen, unheard or unknown. I had actually forgotten that he had contributed to 'A Year' (a true classic for me), and had never heard the material posted into this thread (many thanks guys). The man could sing couldn't he. And as observed above - The House, very much of it's time with some real 70s influences (including Bowie), good vocal performance and with a nice 70s Quo back beat, so a bit of a treat to hear that, but very sorry that it's Bernie's passing which brought it to my attention. RIP Bernie.

Another song featuring Bernie on lead vocal... Once again collaborating with the likes of Phil Collins, Gary Moore and Andy Pyle, and various other artists.

Very sad to hear about this. RIP Bernie. I didn't know till recently how wide ranging his work with Quo was. I like Modern Romance.

Some songs not many will have heard before that feature Bernie on lead vocal "Old man of the Ocean" reminds me of Todd Rundgren, I think.

I've played this a few times and it has a lovely melody to it. I think if Rick had picked this up it could have turned into a treat. Almost a Lonely Man type vibe. These are the type of 'warm' numbers seriously lacking from Quo from the 80's on.

RIP Bernie - I only heard about it yesterday, but after the news that he was in serious condition it's not a surprise. Still saddening. With his actual name reinstated, 1974 follow-up single "The House" was produced by Francis Rossi and is now generally regarded as a hugely rare and essential part of Status Quo's discography. It's not so rare anymore now that it has appeared on CD last year. In the light of his untimely death, I'm actually quite glad this and the '85 Rossi/Frost tracks were included on the BTB deluxe edition. Not wanting to give myself a pat on the back and of course, I wish he'd lived longer to see a proper release of all his material under his own name (such as Flying Debris, the 1974 album and the Boz Frost single), but at least he was still around to see those songs being revived on that edition, not to mention the many songs they wrote together on the four albums that were reissued.

It's every bit as rare as it ever was... but of course as a collector I'm referring to the artefact, not its audio Also glad to see it on CD but confused as to why it was on "Back To Back" when chronologically it belongs on "Quo"?!

Well, for a start the Quo bonus disc was pretty much full, and I don't think anyone had that track on their radar then. I wasn't involved with the Quo deluxe.
It appeared on a list of mine which included, as bullet points, both "Flying Debris" with that single appended (at that time I wasn't aware Bernie had recorded a full album) and "Recorded Delivery", between BTB and ITAN. (That also included Alan's tracks from the era, by the way.) In the end things got a bit jumbled up and it was out of my hands, but I wouldn't have dared to complain because I was happy just to get it released on CD.
In the end, there are things that could have been better with that reissue in particular. I don't know why the Milton Keynes Medley wasn't included, for instance. It is what iit is, I guess...

Here's the Foreign Lady single... A side and B side. Foreign Lady, IMO, has a very David Bowie vibe about it.

Yes it's VERY Bowie! Foreign Lady is about Marietta, who Bernie "knew" before she met and married Rick.

Why is it that nobody seems to know his birthdate?

I feel so stupid I only just found out Bernie died in 2019 by accident while doing a Wikipedia search.
Why was this never on the news?
