Its not nursery rhyme pop but it is certainly bland, lazy rock pop and instantly forgettable. It does the 'new band' no favours that's for sure.
I can listen to it above the mid eighties to late nineties material but that's not saying much.
Anyway, its a Francis Rossi solo album under the guise of Status Quo so there is no love lost there. As a Rossi solo album number it is perfectly ok.

Just what I expected by the Francis Rossi Bands first single, from their debut album.

That is so close to what could be a good Quo sound ... but completely fails my radio test, monotonous (but not in a good way), no light and shade, you could probably bop to it but would you really want to? Its the sort of song "well, that's OK" but you are waiting for it to end, to go on and hear something which is more than OK.
LOCK THEM in an underground room and push chips under the door until they come out with something really good just out of desperation ...
(And why does Francis want to look like everyone's dad? He's not even the eldest!

I lasted 1.45 seconds of that song very very bland, as others have said it's a Francis Rossi song pretending to be SQ. Its a very poor song gets boring really quickly the lyrics are extremely naff and clichéd the wooo's are terrible.
Though i expect the Mr & Mrs Smiths loved it and rocked out around their living room to it fair play to them if they enjoyed it

I prefer to wait and see the pilot episode of the new TV show before passing judgement

I cannot get enough of this song. It is great fun and unusual for Quo with the riff being the backbone of the song. Very clever lyrics and juxtapositions from Rhino.

That's an interesting thought about the riff being the backbone of the song. Then there is a point that it's on repeat. Brings another dimension. Didn't expect that cleaver finesse from Quo.

Backbone is now available on Spotify.
I don't rarely go out and slate my once favourite band, but this song is absolutely horrifying.
No structure,no melody,no f*cking anything,just a monotonous and boring drivel going nowhere.
I don't think I've heard anything worse since Mony Mony...
Who wrote it? Is it a Rhino effort?

Official video now up too, Yeah I actually like it. Nice n loud through headphones it’s way better than the shit these new ‘bands/latest sensations ‘ are releasing. That said, it’s a fleeting song and won’t be remembered years to come to something akin to say a Mystery Song.
