So, Backbone is officially the new single.
At this point, I don’t get the logic?
Radio 2 had played Liberty Lane, they’ve been playing it on tour....so the new single is something else!!
Unless Radio 2 will playlist this in next few weeks, perhaps with Liberty Lane the next song to get playlisted?
I think Liberty Lane is definitely the stronger track so I’m confused as to why this wouldn’t be the lead .
Different tastes, though...others may think Backbone is much better !
Edit- it’s sticking in my mind, whether it be the shout of BACKBONE or the ooos
It definitely has something

Not a big fan of both tracks....but where I think Liberty Lane is ok, I really don't like Backbone at all. Liberty Lane is definitly the better track for me and by quite a bit.

Seems very odd to me. And Liberty Lane is much better I think.

I agree with all the above, the logic seems non-existent, why play two new songs that have gone down very well indeed with live audiences, both of which are catchy and have that "Quo" sound people expect and then to get one playlisted on what is presumably the biggest radio station in the UK and then release another song as lead single. I don't know if this is one of Porter's decisions or a Francis one but it wastes such a great opportunity. You only have to see the number of views of Liberty Lane and Cut Me Some Slack on Youtube to see there has obviously been interest in new music from the band and the comments on there have been positive for the most part too.
Backbone isn't a bad song but it's an odd choice for a single when two other songs are already proving popular and there are other songs on the album that in my mind would have been more obvious choices too.
In the end though it doesn't matter, hardly anyone is interested in singles nowadays and even less people buy them. I'm surprised Francis even wants to be associated with something so nostalgic.

Backbone is now available on Spotify.
I don't rarely go out and slate my once favourite band, but this song is absolutely horrifying.
No structure,no melody,no f*cking anything,just a monotonous and boring drivel going nowhere.
I don't think I've heard anything worse since Mony Mony...

Don't mind it. It's not worse than most of the 80-90 stuff.
It's a little bit monotonic if you focus to much of the rhythm guitar. Imagine that Ritchie plays the riff. After four bars they say: 'OK, we got it. Let's loop these bars through out the song'. On this song he might have been in the studio for 8 seconds.
Jokes (and the riff) aside, I think it is an average/OK song and as good as you can expect from this band today.

Wow it’s absolutely amazing.
So heavy and with a killer chorus. I can just hear it on Blue for you.
Amazing. Can’t wait to buy it. Hope there’s an extended remix on the 12”.
What time to be alive.

To be clear. There is nothing wrong with the riff it self or the way he is playing it. It's just the fact that it is repeated through out the song that's a little bit annoying. Even played in the "oh oh oh oh oh" part.

I don't think honestly saying a song is horrible when it is is slating a band off. But yea, times sure have changed...

I don't think honestly saying a song is horrible when it is is slating a band off. But yea, times sure have changed... They changed long ago... I know that PF...what I meant was that up to 1982 I hardly ever said anything by them was bad...sadly enough the times I did from 83 on have been rising more and more. Still enjoy certain things they did bring out between 82 and now but it's just increasing more and more.
