Getting in early......Admin privileges and all that!
A record I always enjoyed, and one of my first Quo albums too. Bought it through the scam that was Britannia Music Club, remember them? Get 3 records for £1 then you had to buy a set number of overpriced 'full price' albums and they'd send you a crappy 'album of the month' which you had to return by a set date if you didn't want it or you'd be charged. They're probably still taking money out my account to this day.
Anyway, how many people saw the song title 'Rock 'N' Roll' and hurriedly put it on the turntable, awaiting some heavy, hard rocking Led Zep inspired track? Show of hands? A pleasant enough wee tune I suppose.
Other standouts are some Quo 'deep cuts' - The Wild Ones, Coming and Going, Over the Edge. Three Quo tracks I still love to hear.
WYP and Lies, decent enough. Still enjoyable, and I do like to crank up Lies.
Run to Mummy. FFS Francis....
On to the track that splits opinions - Don't Drive my Car. I love it. A wee change from the norm, love the way it chugs along, then the build into the guitar solo about 2 mins in. Not a classic, but pretty, pretty good.
Anything else? Oh yes, crap cover.
Who remembers what the message inscribed into the runoff said?

Really liked this album when it first came out and still give it a listen now and then too. For me the best track was always Over The Edge, one I'd really love to see back in the live set with Richie on lead vocal.Even the Rossi/Frost numbers are better than most of their output and the Rossi/Young song of course has that real Quo feel you'd expect. The only tracks I've never liked are Run to Mummy, just awful and Don't Drive My Car, a truly dire song, really the worst thing Rick ever wrote. Loved the production with John Eden too, possibly the only outsider who has ever really understood the Quo sound.

Class
Always favoured the live Over The Edge, so particularly enjoyed listening again yesterday to the album version. A *thumping* proper Quo bassline....the last truly great one? A classic, and one I'd underrated.
Even Run To Mummy (sorry everyone) is really enjoyable - because a great band are playing it with power.
Name of the game is a skipper (even then I like the guitar sounds) but I love the rest from start to finish.

I will review after giving it a spin again.
Whatever my opinion, it seems to me the most overrated album by far.

Coming after Whatever You Want I had mixed feelings about this album at the time...eagerly buying it and rushing home to the parents lounge to whack it on the turn table.
It is very good for the most part. WYP i still love, perhaps a bit light for some, but a masterclass in the toe tapping hit making machine that was Quo and a little different..don't like it in the medley live though.
Still not sure about Run to Mummy as has been said by others.
They tried to vary things and should be credited for that but I think it does not beat WYW before it or NTL after it.
Still a good time to be a Quo fan before the quality graph started to dip noticeably during the early eighties.

A very disappointing album. Only The Wild Ones (brilliant), Name Of The Game and Lies rescues this for me. Over The Edge I just don't like, maybe its Quo by numbers and don't get me started on Don't Drive My Car. Awful album cover as well.

Not on the original album of course but had it on the b side of Lies, I do quite like a wee bit of AB Blues cranked up!

Part of the holy trinity as markquo says. Second and last great period of Quo for me. I like the album a lot. Still love What you're proposing, Lies, Over the Edge. Absolute favorites for me are The Wild Ones, Name of the Game and Coming and Going which has one of Rick's best vocals ever in my opinion ! Rock and roll is a nice little closer of the album. The two songs I never liked though are Don;t drive my car (although I have a bit less problems with it nowadays) and especially Run to Mummy, sorry but I think that is a turd ! The strange thing about this album is a bit that side 2 for me is quite different from side 1...The Wild Ones, Name of the Game and Coming and Going would have fitted more on NTL for me, especially Name of the Game...

For me it’s an average album stuck in the middle of 2 superior ones. It has dated the worst out of those 3 as well imo. Still a much better album than the 1982 or B2B though.

Who remembers what the message inscribed into the runoff said? I remember that Britannia Music Club! (seemed like a good idea at first!)...and I remember the messages inscribed on the run-out grooves on the LP. Side 1 IT'S WHAT YOUR RIGHT ARMS FOR Side 2 THE PRODUCERS! John Eden said at one time that he and the band worked more on The Wild Ones and Name Of The Game than other tracks on the album. He also seemed pleased with how Don't Drive My Car turned out, saying how the band gave it their all and he captured it essentially live (few overdubs) and a special moment when the track made it to tape. It was a troubled start to the new decade for the band in different ways. Rick's family tragedy of course and with Bob Y no longer involved with the band, bar going to Dublin to record the harp on Coming And Going. I was relieved that Quo were keeping up with the music scene with JS and not being the dinosaurs of rock. They had found a new twist on their sound and it seemed right for the early 80s without losing touch with their past albums. The radio stations started to flip the single and play 'Lies' more frequently than DDMC. The band recorded AB Blues at Rick's studio and I became addicted to that track on the b side to WYP.

Great album, but I massively prefer Never Too Late...
The only 2 tracks I'm not overly keen on from the Supposin' album are "Run To Mummy" and "Name Of The Game". They just don't do anything for me at all.
