Helloween is a power metal band...only had some trash influences on the first two albums...but that aside, it's a pretty good cover I think. There was a band who recorded a few of their tracks some time ago in a trashy version, Godslave, and although not sounding bad they were less faithful to the originals then this one from Helloween.. That's a very close cover apart from the Muppetts vocals, and i can take that in small doses for its sincerity. What a good song that is!
Here is another one they covered, Little Lady...vocals of course are nothing like Quo...but it's pretty faithful to the original and worked out pretty good I think... they made an ep called Whatever we want which has covers of Too Far Gone, Little Lady, Down Down, Is there a better way and Caroline Godslave - Cover of Little Lady

VictorThanks , didn't know about the Godslave tribute. Like the artwork - whatever we want! I'm not sure I really understand "power metal" as a term. I think it started to develop in the 90's, not much new (Nu ?) metal has appealed to me since then. Feels like there's more categories of metal now than there are decent new bands! Now I just sound old lol Don't remember Gamma Ray having a following in the UK so they passed me by. I'll download an album and give em a go - which one would you suggest?

MrWaistcoat From Gamma Ray I'd suggest No World Order, Somewhere out in space and Majesty...but I like all their albums, those three are my favorites though, especially No world order Yea, I know the problem of the many many metal categories and quite often they overlap...for instance Melodic death metal who put in power metal influences or the other way around, folk- and powermetal combined, trash and power combined... it can be quite overwhelming if you're not really into metal

Oh and powermetal got a lot of stuff from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and bands like that and just added melody, speed and more things, some become even epic/symphonic

"... the first couple of albums were a bit hard to take but the ones after that I do enjoy quite a bit. ...."
That reminds me of Marvin in the car park ... "The first million years were the worst. The second million years, they were the worst too. After that I went into a bit of a decline!" Some of those covers look really interesting, must have a listen.

Not sure how you add melody and speed to Maiden ... and they've got 3 guitarists and a secret keyboardist already

I have a bit of trouble with categories too ... I would have thought "thrash metal" meant "Ace of Spades" but apparently it's Cookie Monster metal. <puzzled>

Have a listen to Some of Blind Guardian's work or gamma ray's work...and there are bands that add a lot more speed to that, believe me !

Well...Lemmy himself has often called his own music rock and roll... a loud form of it.... I think one of the problems with categories is that everyone has their own definition of what belongs in which category whoever came up with...

Yes, this is better but it can't compete to the original. Maybe some of you won't agree, but I think Quo's version is the heaviest, don't bee fooled of the rawness and overgained guitars on these covers. Also this makes me realise how good instrumentalists FF really were. It's hard to keep it simple but still interesting.

It sounds like I'd have really liked it when I was 20. Still like the metal I always liked, but find I have less patience now for getting into the unfamiliar
