Hello, This is basically my first post here. So let me introduce myself I'm a younger fan of Rock music. I try to discover as much Classic Rock bands as I can. As a huge fan of AC/DC and The Rolling Stones, knowing all their songs ect... and saw AC/DC live as well. I discovered Status Quo a view months ago and since then I'm listening alot to their greatest hits and a view albums. Now I want to buy Quo albums on Vinyl, but since they made 31 Albums I really don't know wich albums to pick... So I really hoped you guys could help me out by selecting their best albums. And uhm... How bad are their baddest albums? Cheers!

Welcome to the board. Golden period of Quo would be: Piledriver Hello Quo On The Level Blue For You Rockin All Over The World (John Eden Remix) Then for earlier raw Quo stuff "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" and "Dog of Two Head". You hear Quo progressing into their bluesy rock. The "Whatever You Want" album is another corker. "Just Supposin'" is a good one too. There's 10. These are obviously my choices. Quo appeals to many different types of fan but first 6 listed would usually be in the staple library. I'm not really qualified to tell you anything from their lighter period (1986 onwards).

Already listened to the Rockin All Over The World album, I really liked it. So by 1986 to now... You mean bad?

At a push, "Heavy Traffic" wasn't too bad. I didn't mind "Rock Till You Drop" either. I'd avoid the cover albums though. Don't Stop Famous in the Last Century Riffs

There are two earlier albums. "Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From The Status Quo" and "Spare Parts" but I'd leave them alone and listen to the other stuff first.
If you're feeling up to it, it might be interesting for you to listen to them in order starting from "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon"

As you can tell this is a touchy subject, but I'm also new to Quo, about a year now, and so my perspective is similar to yours. I'll list my favorites and then get beat up by the purists.
In no particular order of the Frantic Four, which is classic Quo.
Piledriver Hello Quo On the Level Blue For You Rockin All Over the World If You Can't Stand the Heat (NOTE: this is a very divisive album. I freakin' love it, but a lot of others hate it) Just Supposin' Whatever You Want Never Too Late
Ma Kelly's and Dog are both good, but not as good to me.
For something that combines both, The Other Side of Quo is a collection of rarities and b-sides and has some good stuff, but I don't know about vinyl.
In post-86 Quo
In Search of the Fourth Chord is a damned good rocker Heavy Traffic Quid Pro Quo The Party Ain't Over Yet Rock Til You Drop
Hope this helps a bit.

Anything after Back 2 Back isn't really STATUS QUO ,more a diluted form that just lived of the name , Just buy the albums from 71-76 and you won't be disappointed , then 77-85 they went a bit iffy .

Yeah, I did think of doing that but I thought someone would lose their rattle. Aye! For some folks post Live Aid is the big change & I agree with that regarding live performances. However, on record in particular, they just weren't the same after John left, imo. Of course, some folks might say they may as well have packed it all in after the Live! album - for others it all went to shit when Elvis went to Hollywood!

All you have to do is crack open a couple of beers, put on some decent headphones lay back on the sofa then have the Quo Live 1977 album recorded at the legendary Glasgow Apollo in October 1976 pounding through those `cans`. Job done, I would say!
