Other than WYW and LOAI, i think the only other differences are that High Flyer and Runaway are both extended slightly.

I never heard the American remix... even though Whatever you want has become boring to me cos of it being overplayed through the years, to cut off the intro is nonsense in my eyes, the intro is one of the things that makes that song.

Thought it odd that the intro to WYW had been left off the Aquostic version...though perhaps Rick wasn't there that day! All the clues were there.

Really shabby, smiling face and shady lady are missing. Reminds me of the old CD's with two Quo albums squashed on, all with songs missing

The WHATEVER YOU WANT album, which celebrates its 40th anniversary year, was going to be called 'As It Happens' until a live album by local band Dr Feelgood use the title for their live album released a few months earlier. If I remember rightly, I wasn't too sure what to expect from this album, after the disappointment of the previous 2 releases and it was the first new studio material for 3½ years. I remember hearing the single 'Whatever You Want' for the first time and thinking, going by that track, this could be a good album, but I didn't go much on the album cover, the worst since Ma Kelly. I liked most of the Album with my favorite track being 'Who Asked You' and it mystified me why this wasn't released as the 3rd single. I thought 'Living On An Island' could of went on a bit longer, as it was just about to rock, when it faded!! Another curious thought, was why Living On An Island was the lead track on the US remixed 'Now Hear This' where 'Who Asked You' in my opinion would of been a much better choice. 8/10 Yea that track is absolute class...Breaking away just edges it for me personally though with Who asked you following very close !

The start of what I see as the second and last great period of Quo... (WYW, JS and NTL). Loved it when it came out and still like the album very much. Absolute favorite song on it for me is Breaking away. Also love Who asked you, Shady Lady, High Flyer, Living on an Island, Your smiling face and Come rock with me/Rockin'on. Only track I never really got into was Runaway. I used to love Whatever you want but the song has been so much overplayed that It became nboring to me sadly enough. But yes, still one of my favorites and forms a perfect trilogy for me with JS and NTL. I do think it's a shame Hard Ride wasn't on the original album but only included later cos in my opinion it deserved to be on the album. You just saved me from writing a lot of words...just copy your post mate

It's one of my personal favourites, I love who asked you and always thought they should of opened with that, imagine as the opening riffs play the lights just light up and it there you have it...but they didn't...i don't think there is a bum song on the album, maybe your smiling face, but it's a cracker for me....

Cracking album, and I love the raw sound they captured after the overly polished Rockin' and Heat albums.
Quo should NEVER have changed their studio sound to try and capture the American audience. If they don't like Quo for their utter raw power and unpolished sound, fuck 'em... They weren't being true to themselves or their fans... then again, bands have to find some way to make the next album sound different from the last one, but they made a big mistake not producing themselves as they had done since Piledriver or before then.
Best track, without a doubt - Who Asked You and the video for it is great... love playing along to it also
Cheers

I think it has been on here before, but what do you think about the lyrics of WAY, is it about Frame? "Seventeen years and it ain't no worth giving a try you said" fits very well in to the fact that they had been a band for seventeen years at this point. If this is the case, wasn't Frame aware ot it or was he so high he couldn't see?

Strange that on the official Quo site, the lyrics for Who Asked You include "no" on that line when Rossi definitely does not sing it... However, it has been disputed that it was about the press(?) which I very much doubt as it seems to be more of a personal issue rather than hate towards how the press were and always have been towards the band. Also, Rick mentions that thieving bastard Alan Crux and wanting to see him because he was feeling lonely... which is funny because behind their backs he was robbing the band and they were all clueless but Alan and Bob who were both dropped. Cheers

Maybe it's me being slow but I can't see what difference the "no" makes. Was a big radio special with Tommy Vance and Quo in 82 where they discuss the vicious media criticism, they then talk about this song as a response. Seem to remember AL say "why didn't I think of that?"
Interesting that this really doesn't sound like an AL song, it very much sounds like francis through and through. I think that's because Francis genuinely loved the song and message, and threw himself into it. The song imo is a genuine band effort.

Maybe it's me being slow but I can't see what difference the "no" makes. It doesn't fit in the line... sing it with the "no" in and you'll see how stupid it sounds

I always loved the lyric "If you like what I like come rock with me"..I did from 1972 to seeing the band I witnessed in 1986.
