Okay. Love the album, I think it's vastly underrated. And Who Asked You? was downright clever.

The WHATEVER YOU WANT album, which celebrates its 40th anniversary year, was going to be called 'As It Happens' until a live album by local band Dr Feelgood use the title for their live album released a few months earlier. If I remember rightly, I wasn't too sure what to expect from this album, after the disappointment of the previous 2 releases and it was the first new studio material for 3½ years. I remember hearing the single 'Whatever You Want' for the first time and thinking, going by that track, this could be a good album, but I didn't go much on the album cover, the worst since Ma Kelly. I liked most of the Album with my favorite track being 'Who Asked You' and it mystified me why this wasn't released as the 3rd single. I thought 'Living On An Island' could of went on a bit longer, as it was just about to rock, when it faded!! Another curious thought, was why Living On An Island was the lead track on the US remixed 'Now Hear This' where 'Who Asked You' in my opinion would of been a much better choice. 8/10

Just downloaded this from Apple Music , and it comes with the US remix which I’ve never heard.
I never really took to this album , it must be 30 years since I listened. Will give it a try....

A return to form, some have said...a concept album, some have said...Quo by numbers, some have said. I love this album regardless. I got into Quo around this time and this was my the first album from the band. To be honest even the likes of Hello, Quo and On The Level which were subsequently purchased later did not quite match it but probably a bit of sentiment involved.
The first three tracks just rock..love the drumming on Shady Lady..there is such a great rocky bounce if you get my drift.
High Flyer was never quite there for me but at the Stated Quo pre reunion gigs in Hammersmith at the Distillers in 2014 it came to life..there is a clip of the pub crowd on here somewhere...I was there lol..happy days.
Not much more to say..up there with the best.

It's in the car, so will give it some hammer over the next few weeks. I haven't listened to it for a while, so will turn it up to 11 in the inevitable queues if I like it , or down if I don't. Expect o see Wayne's World on the A59!

After a couple of Ropey albums and wondering were Quo finished this album was an absolute breath to me. As far as I was concerned it was a return to form and not a duffer on it. Although ‘ Your Smiling Face ‘ was probably the weakest track imo. Also think the UK mix was spot on. Especially when compared to the RAOTW album ! Definitely in my top 5 of albums !

The start of what I see as the second and last great period of Quo... (WYW, JS and NTL). Loved it when it came out and still like the album very much. Absolute favorite song on it for me is Breaking away. Also love Who asked you, Shady Lady, High Flyer, Living on an Island, Your smiling face and Come rock with me/Rockin'on. Only track I never really got into was Runaway. I used to love Whatever you want but the song has been so much overplayed that It became nboring to me sadly enough. But yes, still one of my favorites and forms a perfect trilogy for me with JS and NTL. I do think it's a shame Hard Ride wasn't on the original album but only included later cos in my opinion it deserved to be on the album.

Not a great album, but a true Quo album, lots of dynamic quirky songs. Always playable. Maybe the start of the barrel of really top songs running low.

This is miles better than RAOTW and IYCSTH and even better than every album after this one. Shady Lady is the only weak track to me. Living on an Island is definitely one of their greatest ballads together with Lonely Man. The title track belongs to the rock classics. Best song is Who Asked You but if I was only able to listen to 20 seconds of this album I would shoose the tempo change between Rocking On and Come Rock With Me. That's sweet. Breaking Away is a great closer.

Breaking Away is a great closer. Wow, you just wrote my review of WYW, albeit with one or two diffs. I absolutely LOVED this album, every track worked for me but I've always been a little wishy-washy about LOAI and wished they'd released more of the up tempo part at the end which [imho] is when it really sang - I still tend to skip it if I hear it!
WYW reminds me of two things - when it was released I remember seeing it in our local shop window and being all excited going home from school and hoping to be able to get it soon. But that Friday night I was struck down by vicious appendicitis and ended up in hospital to have it removed in emergency - for various reason [that being one of them!] I was p***ed off because I couldn't wait to get out and [hopefully] by then there'd still be copies of the LP in the shop; also a pal of mine had given me the cash to pick up Motorhead's 'Bomber' album so I had that swirling around my head too [Ain't it MAD the things we remember??] Secondly, I played lead in a covers band in our hometown and we played WYW to death so I was sick of it by the time I left that little troupe! Needless to say tho', the crowds loved it!
Yep WYW - the 1st of the last three Great Quo albums.

Replace the fairly mundane 'Runaway' with 'Hard Ride' and we have a better balanced and convincing album after the more experimental previous couple of albums. Pip W and John Eden and the band worked together and committed to tape a very robust but easy on the ear sounding album. Has a real warmth to it but an edge at the same time. 'Living On An Island' seems to divide opinions more than other tracks. Personally think it has an excellent arrangement and a great addition to the Quo songbook, as just letting the punters know there is more to Quo than a bit of boogie. I thought they must have cracked it when our keyboard player in a band I had been in, gave Living the thumbs up. He usually had no interest in them and divisive when it came to Quo.
