On the level, the only thing I don’t like is the cover. The inner gatefold sleeve is a different matter. Spent many an hour looking at the photos.
As for the music, a great album that at 38 minutes is a belter. Those were the days when they produced great rock music. Where Rossi’s vocals were great with quite a variation. There is so much to admire in the guitar interplay on Over and Done.
Little lady the best balls out rocker Rick put his name to. Most of the time sublime and under rated. I love every track. The first album since Ma Kelly’s to have a longer track on. Does it miss that ? Maybe. But until the Whatever album they didn’t do it again. I think they felt...fine that no need to do it again.
Down down a majestic rocker and if it wasn’t for Killing in the name of...the heaviest song to ever be the No 1 single.
A great album and a 9/10.
Bye bye Johnny is the weakest track to me by some distance.

'Cos a longer track was done on BFY with Mystery song ...LL/MOTT are 6.27 together and Mystery song has a length of 6.44...

I meant a track ala Gottagohome,4500x or Slow train but on second thoughts Piledriver doesn’t have one either. A multipart song. If that explains myself. Been a hard day where’s me red wine.

Solid album but I would say that it's my least favorite from the 1972-1976 era. Little Lady is a real rocker but feels really short, maby because it's so intense. Most of the time is my favorite, I like how it begins like a ballad and turns to something really heavy. Great guitar solo. I Saw the Light is little to much chunkachunka but sometimes that is nice to. Over and Done, great track, wished Alan did the vocals. Nightride, not bad but a little bit slow and boring. Down Down, one of their best singles but the album version is better. Broken Man, some times considered as a weak track which I don't understand, it has has a great riff, nice melody and intresting solo part. Alan even delivers great vocals. What to Do, not my favorite but the guitar parts including the riff and the solo are very good. Where I Am, boring arrangement, could be reworked as a slow and heavy blues tune. Bye Bye Johnny, I can understand why they wanted to record this as it had been a live favorite for many years. It's better live though.

Brilliant album 9/10 would be a 10 but MOTT lets it down in my opinion. Cheers

An absolute rocker of an album and perhaps my favourite of them all. First had it on 8-track for the car. I Saw the Light was the one I mostly listened to.
The drums on Nightride, oh ya. The best fade-out song from Quo.

This will be the first album of month I won't be listening to - there's no need as I'm so familiar with it.
It's brilliant. LL/MOTT a killer opening. No fillers, just infectious songs with stacks of high energy. A truly great band in a bag of it's own, doing it's thing.
Never got the BBJ knocks. It rocks like hell, and along with the crowd singing, certainly helped make me desperate to see this band live.
Listening to the album is the only way left for me to enjoy DD - the extra bits still sound fresh to me, while the single edit is so overplayed.
Growing up this was always my favourite album from the 70's. Perhaps more so than the others, the sound has remained very fresh

I'm a bit Down Down because I can't find my CD, but Most of the time I find them after a bit and then my problems will be Over and Done.
Three of my favourites as it happens.

A band firing on all 4 cylinders. Even Francis likes this one!!
The first few bars of 'Little Lady' are sublime and the band/record company chose wisely making it the opening track followed by 'Most Of The Time'.
Rossi and Young, during the 70s, were reliable in terms of songwriting consistency but what made this album as well for me had been how Parfitt's and Lancaster's contributions were also up there. As close to the complete package as possible.
Gatefold sleeves gave an air of quality and OTL was no exception. Optical illusions were not common place back in the mid 70s so something of a masterstroke to use one as the front cover...a talking point in rock circles?
A definite contender as a personal Desert Island album Disc.

Just realized that OTL lacks a song in a minor key.
DOTH has three Piledriver has four Hello! has two Quo has two BFY has at least two (Rollin home is somewhere in between)

Optical illusions were not common place back in the mid 70s so something of a masterstroke to use one as the front cover...a talking point in rock circles? Always thought it was really cool and very imaginative. Would make a great tshirt if done properly. Wonder whose idea it was? Think Francis came up with the title, not sure about the illusion. Until this thread I had no idea some fans don't like it. I actually don't have the gatefold so I'm clearly missing out. I won't mind at all if somebody wants to post links to it. I bought mine on a market in Spain in 1980 when I was 9. It has "numero uno en Englettera" stamped on the front, and cost me about 20p. I carefully carried it home, even on the plane. I had to wait about 9 days before I got it home and could put it on. No music has ever blown me away like LL did on that first listen. It stunned and amazed me, I was hooked. But yes Francis does like this one. Francis and Rhino often talk about "diverse but not too diverse, colourful", and it's this album that comes from. Don't think it worked, but OTL was in mind when they made the party album. Hello! (the other one I think he must still like) was basically the blueprint for HT There was a really interesting thread ages ago about the story behind each album cover, but my memory is crap and I can't remember any of it now
