1982 and B2B aren't FF albums though.... Yep stand corrected. 3 FF Songwriters then lol. But the argument still stands. Those 2 albums were as bad as any Status Quo albums ever recorded by any of their line-ups. For sure ! Shows once again the Quo church is a very broad one... for me 1982 was ok in places and I do like several songs of it where BTB was a complete disaster in my eyes

I kinda like it because it was the last time on record Francis' Tele sounded like Francis' Tele.
Concept/song choices aside, it's got a bit of the energy of old Quo about it, and the production is fairly earthy for the times. IMO. Tin hat etc.

I thought it was a huge improvement to the PR album....

Don't like Quo doing medleys, don't like Quo doing covers (generally, there are some great ones like Roadhouse Blues for examplel). These releases are a mystery to me. What did they want to achieve? Chart sales, IIRR. I think it worked quite well for them, too. There were people going, Status Quo? Are they still alive?
To which the answer was.................. not really no 😉

The sound was the best the band had had since 1982. And yes a relief following PR. Think it reached no2 in the UK chart. I liked it at the time but it wouldn't bother me if I didn't hear it again. Remember really liking the great balls of fire bit and liking the power and sound of it, it sounded like how the band sounded live at that time.

Cry for help?
No, more a concerted pitch for a genuine hit single following the disappearance of the singles buying Quo army. It worked, but of course AW didn't help the band recover it's position in any way, nor did any of the other numerous stunts. Rather than help, they compounded the problems
It did make me hope the sound would be better in the future, which RTYD was. Loved the RTYD tour, as the sound of the band on album was recognisably the same as on stage. There's few years in Quo's history that was the case. Then came TW, I felt crushed.
