I don't know what it is about Jeff Rich's drumming, it doesn't seem to matter who produced the tracks, but it just sets my teeth on edge. Not just the obvious tempo issue but the tinny, thinness of the sound.

Nothing after NTL was worth a Barclays or a Sherman.

I was thinking...omg...what the heck are you doing...

Don't like Quo doing medleys, don't like Quo doing covers (generally, there are some great ones like Roadhouse Blues for examplel). These releases are a mystery to me. What did they want to achieve?

Nothing after NTL was worth a Barclays or a Sherman. Exactly !! The rot set in DURING the FF period. 1982 to be exact ! To be honest I’d take QPQ over 1982 & B2B anyday.

Yep stand corrected. 3 FF Songwriters then lol. But the argument still stands. Those 2 albums were as bad as any Status Quo albums ever recorded by any of their line-ups. For sure !

Chart sales, IIRR. I think it worked quite well for them, too. There were people going, Status Quo? Are they still alive?

When Quo starting playing around with 'Shake Baby Shake' and 'Rock and Roll Music' in the sets on the End of the Road '84 gigs it was probably just a matter of time before we had the A Waltz in some form or other!
The management were working overtime trying to get to single to No.1 in the charts. Think it did make it to No.1 in a chart but not the official one!
Quo were not that relevant in the chart scene at the time and not sure their credibilty was in any peril with the public at large. If anything, Quo were putting out the message 'It's live sonny' as a kick against Jive bunny and the recording trends of the day.
As Mrs F has alluded to, for many music punters it may have been a bit of a surprise to see Status Quo at the top end of the charts having assumed they had long since departed.
