Ken Bruce played Francis Rossi new single off his new coming album. I can't wait to read the comments. But you will all still go out and buy the album..otherwise you won't be able to slate it.

Clearly not Quo but I enjoyed it, very heavily influenced by 80s Jeff Lynne production style , which is no bad thing, slightly underwhelming instrumental break though.

Not for me at all. During the instrumental bits, it's a bit margarita time. If that's the single, I'll give the album a miss.

I wasn't impressed at all and as mentioned by rossiwaistcoat, the guitar parts has similarities to Marguerita Time.

its very ELO as already mentioned, which is ok but its a very repetitive song imo & typical Rossi. The middle part is Marguerita Time mk2. Can see why people will like it and dance to it. It's not for me its generic and bland

I listened to snippets of each song via iTunes to see if it was worth buying.
It’s not for me... too far down the country route.
I liked (and purchased) FR’s last solo album, but won’t be buying this one.

More like Part 2 of the Aquostic version of Don't Drive My Car.
There's no substance to Rossi's music at all these days. The lyrics are just inane, meaningless drivel, and the melodies over simplified and stiff. More like bad nursery rhymes.
He should just be a producer if he likes being in the studio so much. He doesn't seem to have the material himself. Bottom of the barrel stuff, this. IMVHO! Sorry.

Well, most fans haven't been happy with the sound on a Quo album since RTYD. Hugely frustrating that "studiofied Quo" were largely unable to record a good studio sound So no disrespect intended to Francis, but could he possibly be a good producer?

He doesn't seem to have the material himself. Bottom of the barrel stuff, this. IMVHO! Sorry. Like you gav and as a few others have said on other threads, I'm hearing something of the Aquostic 'Don't Drive My Car' within this track and as we know Francis loves that Aquostic rendition. Starts off a bit Mr Blue Sky and though it keeps a certain bounce it has quite a minor chord melancholy about it. Starting to think back to his 'Tango' and 'Lover Of The Human Race' tracks as perhaps some sort of template. Not too sure about those robotic voice repeats? Not sure what the thinking was there. Clearly meant to be another swing away from traditional Quo material and even Rossi's previous solo albums. Something quite different. I suppose he loves pop too much not to have gone down a more roots road with this album with Miss Rickard that I would have possibly enjoyed more. Even Quo tracks from the Golden era could have inane and meaningless lyrics..eg 'Paper Plane' and 'In My Chair' are fairly silly lyrically but it was the way the songs were played and the drive of the songs that appealed to many of us. For me it is going to be album to not judge too quickly and give it a bit of time. Even if it isn't automatically music that many of us would want to hear from Rossi, there is something a bit more valid, in a sense, if he is allowed to be himself now at this point in his career/life rather than just force another rock album out of him, if his heart isn't really in it.
