My favorite by far of anything they did. One of the ten greatest rock albums of all time.

I'll never forget the first time I heard the 2006 remaster of this, especially when John comes in with the drums on Just Take Me. I was in the car with the volume up LOUD. With the 4 speakers in the car it sounded like I was sat in the middle of his drum kit!
For me, with albums like this, the 2006 remasters can't be beaten!

The Quo album and what an album. (May 1974 #2 UK) I remember having the single Break The Rules, which to be honest,I wasn't impressed with as I thought the 'B' side Lonly Night, was much better, as I always played this on the local pub June boxes. The first thing about this album I remember is the great cover after in my opinion a dull cover from the previous album Hello! In the 7Os the albums were in the record shops on Thursday afternoon, ready for the Friday release. I rush home after work and played the album while reading through the brown lyric sheet. A brilliant start Backwater, Just Take Me, then the single followed by the ear shattering Drifting Away The second side started with another gem, Dont Think It's Matters. I wasn't impressed with Fine, Fine, Fine, but my ears pricked up again with Lonely Man, to me this was a grower and is now in my Top 5 Quo tracks. Well you couldn't get a better ending to an album then Slow Train. After listening to the Album many times over that weekend, I was looking forward to seeing the band at the Empire Pool Wembley a few weeks later hoping they would play a lot of the album, but I was a bit disappointed to find they only played Backwater/Just Take Me and didn't play Slow Train or the current top 10 single Break The Rules 9/10

Looking forward to listening, as with Live!, won't be able to pretend it's been years
Of all the Quo albums, this one is without question a heavy rock album. As I learned on the old board, lots of "non-heavy" Quo fans love Hello! but enjoy the melody of the songs and see them as rocked up pop songs. And isn't that Francis? He "Quo's up" a song. But here we have "things", wonderful things.
I wonder if "the hardcore" have latched onto this, Live! and Dog almost like an antidote to the bands later output / image. If listening to this does nothing else, it reinforces that we weren't crackers walking around everyday sporting our patches sewn into denims and leathers!

Favourite Quo Album: 'Hello' [and 'Quo Live']
Favourite other bands.: Zappa, Kansas, Rush, Deep Purple, Yes, Richard Thompson, Horslips, Rory Gallagher, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest etc etc. [ANYONE but Kiss!]

Beyond doubt their heaviest album - and not a stinker on it! For me, 'Quo', 'Hello' and 'Live' are the definitive Quo - they came kinda close with some others, but I think that post-'Live' it was [with just a few exceptions] downhill at a sickening pace [don't get many of us started on the quality either!!] The sleeve is a Rock Classic - Quo's finest and, dare I say it, most artistic. I often think that Alan [and not as much, Rick] must have wondered what the hell was going on with the band in AL & JC's latter times, given that the same band had produced this earth-shattering icon of 70s Hard Rock. BRILLIANT! - but a sad indictment of what was to come.

When I considered my user name (some years ago on the official fans forum, as was), this is THE album and moment in my music following, album buying, icon album cover moment, etc etc, which sticks out beyond all others - there is another live thread on here about Burning Bridges, which I struggle to process, as such mediocre slop is profoundly shallow, pointless and, well shite, in comparison. But on a more positive note, there are clips on Youtube of current line up putting in some banging performances (I jest not), and I have just watched a rendition of BFM - I thought Rossi's playing was sublime and RM did a fantastic job on vocals. Talk about following a band of contrasting experiences!
Back on topic, for me, the Quo album is their perfect moment, with every song being a gem.

For me it all began with DD then ROLD...then I got serious (with spare cash) buying On The Level. Only by chance later bought QUO and was totally blown away with this next chapter of Status Quo....ffs we’re talking Drifting Away, Backwater, Just Take Me, Lonely Man, then ending with perhaps their best the magnificent Slow Train....faark what were these boys on? Goin on 50 years later, this album still fkn rocks!!

This one always competes with On The Level as my fave studio album, just a cracking album. I obviously took my Quo name from the album track, although like that track I can go on and on. In fact that would probably be my only minor complaint, DTIM would have been better in a truncated form. No need for it to kick back in, unlike the mighty Slow Train which contains the best kick back ever.

All I can say is, take a bow Mr Lancaster as this is your magnum opus!

So they played the first three live at various points and a snippet of Slow Train in a medley ( who thought that was a good idea), but none of the others? DTIM at Shepperton although Alan didn't recognise it. Still to find a decent Break the Rules by Quo to put on the live thread, I prefer other bands live versions as all the versions I have found so far seem to be played way too fast.

I've got a Quo playlist on apple music with 22 songs on it. Just taken a look, there's only one song from Quo not on it.

It has a lot of good songs ...very good, but ,I've never managed the audio/sound on it.
Imagine the Quo album with the sound from Piledriver or Hello....
