Wayne Morris (Via Facebook) -
"so here goes...
It’s Christmas Time
I wrote the song in Rahlstedt (Hamburg)..Took my demo to Rick in Spain ..He loved it (Francis unfortunately wasn’t so enthusiastic...🙄)...Rick said.." I love it ...and it’s gonna be great when it gets Quo'd up".
Pip (rockin all over the world ) Williams produced it. Rick was adamant that my demo solo stayed on the final version....so that’s me playing the solo and not Francis. (💪🏼)
It was on their Pictures 40 years of hits album . They only played it live a couple of times , but I remember at Wembley...the song was played straight after Quo finished their set...What great feeling for me to hear twenty thousand people singing that song at the top of their voices ...I was so proud.
Rick always said to me that "this song hasn’t reached its potential yet ...and one day it’s gonna be even bigger "..Mmmm I hope he’s right...God bless him.
I really miss Ricky..We were really close...
Ok, I’ve said enough...Have a great Christmas.... and don’t forget to play "It’s Christmas Time".... really loud.
Keep on rocking.
Best regards....Wayne"

Nice story, thank you for sharing. It was played after the 2008 gig I think (and many times after), which was my dads present for my 18th birthday: A weekend in London with the Quo gig on Saturday. It was magical, all of it. And there were about 14.000 people there so don't be such nitpickers. Wayne is just enthusiastic about this and who wouldn't? Has your song ever been played in front of that many people? I love It's Christmas Time! Bought the picture vinyl single on aforementioned weekend in HMV on Oxford Street - don't think the store still exists, does it?

My only recording was played at Twickenham stadium cheers which had over 70000 people there at the time. I accept it was not my own song.🧐🥳

You have expressed in a few words what I was trying to say in another thread about music being beyond the shackles of 'good' or 'bad' music. It runs much deeper or much shallower than that...take your pick. Music is personal and can have emotional connections beyond any perceptions of good or bad. Used to drop into HMV and Virgin in Oxford St when heading into London with work. I used to gravitate towards the 'Blues Room' if my memory serves me correctly, back in the 90s, not sure if in HMV or Virgin. Think you maybe right and no longer there but may have opened a new HMV nearby?

I really like It's Christmas Time... I have since I heard it was released. Such a shame it didn't do better than it did in the charts.
Rick looking very happy in the video for it, and it must have been very frustrating when the QuoFestive tours came around and Rossi wasn't willing to play ball and do their own Xmas song, until the 2nd Festive Tour...
Cheers

I really like it. I just cannot understand why it wasn’t a bigger hit. Honestly I think it suffered from having the Quo name. Had it been an on trend band then I think it would have been massive. Just got a feeling it may still have it’s day down the line !

It's a good Christmas song, had it been released in the '70s it would have been a big tune. I always had a feeling that Rick didn't have too much to do with the writing! Therefore Francis wouldn't have been too enthusiastic...an outsider getting his arm in...even back in '78 when Jackie Lynton co-wrote Again and Again it pissed Francis off!

You make a very interesting point, Francis ever the control freak, yet it was his partnership with Bernie Frost that produced the worst songs ever released by Quo, plumbing the absolute depths of banal tweeness and damaging the reputation of the band beyond measure. As for It's Christmas Time, very much like Burning Bridges, in no way a classic Quo song but still one of those that puts a smile on the vast majority of people's faces and leaves them feeling happier, what more can songwriters and bands hope for? Music after all is all about the fans, or should be.

That's the thing its ok for Francis to use outside songwriters Bernie Frost. Yet when Rick did Rossi got all arsey about it. Double standards.

The one with Nipper over the door, at Bond Street, seems to be still there (or else Google Maps hasn't updated for several years) but I think the big one near Marble Arch is long gone.

I quite like the song, one of Quo Lite's better offerings.
