You say pretty much but Malcolm was the sound of ACDC and by far the central song writer. DC sound did change after Flick of the switch. All down hill from there Fly on the Wall was a different sound for sure compared to FOTS,it took them until Ballbreaker to get back to the sound of earlier Jonno era albums.Plus the return of Phil Rudd helped a lot,as good as Simon Wright and Chris Slade are they didn’t have the same feel. All my opinion of course Cheers Your right about the drum sound. Phil suits DC totally. Last two times I saw them with Slade, it sounded wrong to me. Too much playing not enough rock solid groove.

Chris was great for Manfred Mann's Earth Band, playing 7/4 and even crazier stuff. Since I'm not big on AC/DC I'd attribute the problem to the band rather than the drummer, but that's just me obviously Anyhow, I definitely hope Quo will change a few more things about their set. I'm starting to feel more positive about the band again.
