It’s topcs like one which ultimately make me visit this board less and less. I’m not a happy clapper and don’t like everything Quo do. But to criticise a band for making a living playing in front of thousands of people who may then check out some of the back catalogue is very petty. Remember when the band played Download and went down a storm? That still wasn’t enough for some on here who seemed criticised them for not doing it with the Frantic Four. They just can’t win. But they choose to ignore their awesome back catalogue and play exactly the same set night after night year after year.Rossi is doing exactly what he said he would never do and the band have become a poor tribute to themselves in my opinion. Cheers But you could say that happened 30 years ago

You don’t see other ageing rock bands playing retro festivals. Priest,ACDC,Maiden,Purple,Whitesnake etc. The only reason FRQ play these is because they can’t fill arenas or sell out tours anymore. Its a captive audience.Without appearing at them they are largely forgotten as the hardcore fan base have deserted them. But as he’s proved time and again Rossi cares little for those fans and continues to trade on former glories when he has stated in interviews he hates nostalgia Cheers There's a huge difference between Quo and those bands. All those bands are world wide known and broke America and in the case of the first four never really drifted far from their hard rock origins so their fanbase has remained pretty much constant. Whitesnake of course changed just as much as Quo did musically when Cov decided to chase the dollar and be an MTV musician back in the 80s. Also the bands you mentioned never toured the UK as relentlessly as Quo have as they had to do full US tours , which can take a year in its own right, so their British audience was always eager for a tour as it could be 3 or 4 years since the previous one. There's a certain amount of ennui with Quo tours because up until recently you could see them every winter in the UK so that novelty wasn't there. But for Priest, Purple and Whitesnake even they don't draw the crowds they did back in the 80s, they've all been involved in two header tours where you're reliant on another bands fans buying half the tickets. I don't know when for you Quo's former glories ended. Certainly I remember seeing them on the RAOTW tour and being surprised at the massive change in sound with Andy being far more involved. For some anything post 76 isn't "proper" Quo but as I've said many times on this board all bands and musicians evolve. The sound of a band can't stay the same if members change, technology has changed out of all recognition for live work since the 70s. As a musician you just have to go with the flow. What you say has a lot of truth to it. Bands you love have a golden age. Usually years and years previous. It’s probably how you perceive them. For years and years I criticised Status Quo. It wasn’t for me and I moved on to what for me was better bands. The music I love is timeless but also over 40 years old. I used to see Whitesnake every tour. But about 10 years ago I decided it’s no longer for me. Haven’t been since. Priest the same. Purple the same. I probably have added Status Quo back to the list. I can’t imagine any longer typing the same comments in every thread about the band. Some have become the thing they claim of Status Quo, a tribute to messageboard contributors. Same comments every day. In terms of the live band and set. I think for years I held on with the band. I knew they’d reform. Money talks to Rossi always has. But now that light has gone out for ever. Accept it’s not for you. Find what makes you happy in music. Does that mean don’t be critical...well no.

An ageing Rock Band isn’t going to Attract a new ARMY of young Rock fans. Their best way of attracting sales and getting good appearance money are festivals. You just have to look at how many and how popular they are. Even these retro festivals attract huge attendances of a wide range of ages etc.. These are the hands that now feed them and who wouldn’t love performing to thousands of people many who have probably never seen the band. Better than an ageing split fan base of a few hundred who are bored having seen the band dozens of times. Same faces same seats. Looking bored. It’s like going out on a Friday night, the same people in the same pubs around the same time. Festivals of fresh faces have given them a boost. I think they thoroughly enjoy it 💴. But as he’s proved time and again Rossi cares little for those fans and continues to trade on former glories when he has stated in interviews he hates nostalgia Cheers I see to you it’s still AC/DC. Purple, etc... yet it’s FRQ. Is it not now Angus Young’s/DC. Just an observation lol

Whether Cliff takes part who knows? But yes that would constitute enough of ACDC. If Angus continues with the charade of AXL/DC then no it’s not. Cheers

Cheers I saw ACDC twice on the last tour with Axl and thought they were great live, presumably you missed Brian when you saw them? Having seen GNR many times over the years I thought Axl was on better form with ACDC than he had been in decades with GNR. I've seen ACDC with a Brian and Bon many times too since the mid seventies and really they''re in the same boat as the bands you mentioned in an earlier post, just trying to make the best of changing line ups and keeping the band rolling.

Stevie Young stepping in hadnt altered the sound too much.If Phil returns too and Cliff you pretty much have the BIB line up back. The Quo sound has changed too much in the past 30 years where as DC has remained consistent Cheers

Sorry but very weak argument trying to hide behind the band still sounding similar. If that’s your argument then you wern’t Buying ‘QUO’ albums after 1969.

I saw Axl on the last tour and thought he sounded pretty terrible. I’ve seen them numerous times with Brian so feel I have a pretty good idea on what they sound like to my ears thanks. Was not fortunate enough to see them with Bon as too young back then but he’s my preferred singer of the 2 of them. There were better suited singers to step in for Brian than Axl but it still wouldn’t be ACDC to me. Axl would have not even been on my list Cheers

From your comments you don't go to Quo gigs anymore and if you didn't like the Axl factor it was a big ticket price to pay.

Coz I’d already paid out for a hotel and couldn’t get my money back off the tickets so thought I’d go along give him the benefit of the doubt. At the time of booking Brian was still the lead vocalist. Not a fan of GNR at all but it could have been ok I wasn’t sure what to expect. Cheers

Yeah I heard a lot of people demanded refunds when they heard Axl was the new guy. I liked classic GNR but felt the band lost its way after Axl started jettisoning members at will.

All down hill from there Fly on the Wall was a different sound for sure compared to FOTS,it took them until Ballbreaker to get back to the sound of earlier Jonno era albums.Plus the return of Phil Rudd helped a lot,as good as Simon Wright and Chris Slade are they didn’t have the same feel. All my opinion of course Cheers
