This will probably prove controversial and be seen as tasteless - which it's not meant to be - but what if Rick had died immediately before or during the Xmas tour in 2016? How would this have affected the tour? Would there have been a tribute to Rick every night?
Also, did the distance between Rick's death and Quo's first gig in 2017 excuse Francis (though I don't think it should have) in having to talk about Rick because it could be seen that everyone had an opportunity to come to terms with his death?

The tour would've been cancelled.

Not sure what useful discussion will be got from this thread as nothing can be changed now.
I can see why you're speculating this from the way that Quo has continued in terms of touring.
But for me, its a no brainer. Tour cancelled. That would have been so traumatic that no-one would have wanted to go on. Not even Francis.
The difference in 2016 was that Rick was still alive that summer when they continued after Turkey a few days later with Freddie. What you're speculating on is something very different.
And re: your 2nd question. We're all different, respond in our unique ways. And people don't always behave in the way you would like or think is proper. I don' think he would have given the fans what they hoped for whatever the time scale. He is who he is.

Apologies if the thread has offended anybody but there's countless other examples of people's deaths being analysed in relation to how they caused certain things to happen at a moment in time. Just because it is Rick doesn't mean it can't and shouldn't be discussed.
Interesting to hear others saying that the tour would've been cancelled. I don't think so.

If Rick had been on the 2016 tour, or died just before it, that means he would still have been insurable at the time. So the tour would very likely have been cancelled, as they would not have had someone ready to take over, and some of the costs would be covered.
For me, it would have changed things in a small but important way. It would mean that I would not have seen Quo with Richie in 2016, so when I bogged off and decided through a cascading series of indecisions not to go to the Hammersmith gig in 2017, I would be able to excuse myself by saying, it's not Rick. As it is, I know that Quo can still play a good gig with Richie, so I don't have that excuse. I have to face up to, the elastic has gone somewhere else. Actually I miss them, but I am not sure if the band that now is can fill that gap.

My original post has been misunderstood somewhat. I wasn't putting forward the idea about what would have happened if Rick had died whilst still an active playing member of Quo. What I'm talking about was the unfortunate happening whilst the band plus Richie were on tour. Unlike many, I don't think the tour would have been cancelled. Just my opinion.
I think I'll leave it at that.

One of the good things for me about going to see JCQ the following week, was the chance to do that. I haven't checked the gigography to remember the gap between Rick's passing and their next gig. But those first few weeks when a death occurs can send those close to the departed into deep shock. Who knows if the current band would have been able to play, even if they wanted to. Despite what you and others may believe, I suspect that that they can be as human and vulnerable as the rest of us.

From Ricks death up until JCQ's gig, it was a matter of 6 days Quo weren't back on "tour" until the 18th April, which was 115 days since Ricks death Time is all the difference. There is no getting over the death of a friend but considering Rossi had 115 days to think about it before having to go onstage again which probably made it easier for him to do so... whereas John still went ahead with that gig 6 days later and was still very emotional as it was still very raw

And what exactly did Francis come up with after that lengthy period? One more reason to never go to his tribute band for me.

And what exactly did Francis come up with after that lengthy period? One more reason to never go to his tribute band for me. They’ve been a tribute act for over 30 years. As for what Francis said or didn’t say I for one won’t judge him for being true to himself. Better than a fake gushing tribute which wouldn’t be him.

You also say that they are still SQ, legally and practically, but they hold no interest to you Surely you are having it both ways in saying they are also a tribute act? Don't see how they can be both
