Interesting read on faceache this morning especially after reading the JCQ Australian thread on this board
Steve Newell to Status Quo Fan Club Convention 2019
2 hrs ·
On behalf of my band DOTH I would first like to apologise to all fans of us guys and the convention in general about DOTH being removed from the line up.
I personally have the letter that was sent to our management yesterday. Not one band member was copied on the email or ever consulted.
We really cannot believe how using Ricks health and the fact he quit JCQ and why we had cancelled Lindos led to the organisers of the convention pulling us from the line up.
I quote ;
“we are concerned that DO2H will pull out of Convention as Rick has pulled out of the Australian JCQ tour and DO2H have pulled out of the gig in Rhodes”
Ok, a bit of clarification is required here.
Rick quit JCQ mainly due to the manager not understanding family commitment and also booking gigs over DOTH gigs which in turn caused alot of problems for Rick and us guys. The manager of JCQ had no respect whatsoever of us as a band.
JCQ borrowed Rick from DOTH to help them out originally but as he was obviously the best asset to their band they soon tried to part him from us guys. This was never going to happen as Rick had always said he would not quit DOTH for JCQ as DOTH was his band.
Secondly, we had to cancel the Lindos gig in June as this falls right on the date of Ricks wife having their first child.
We would never have cancelled the convention and truly was looking forward to having a great weekend with all you fans.
Hopefully we will see you Frantic Four Dogging fans at other venues around the country soon.
I ALSO HOPE THAT THIS POST IS NOT REMOVED AS I BELIEVE THE FANS HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW OUR OPINION.
Steve Newell (bass player DOTH)

As much as i like DOTH and i feel desperately sorry for them, I'm sure they'll find a suitable replacement.

The reason's given to us for being pulled from the Convention are that thaey are worried that we will pull out of the Convention ourselves.
That's no reason at all imo.

I can think of another word other than showbiz. People have the right to cancel going to the Convention if they want too. I personally know two people from my own town who were going purely to see Do2h. They're well within their right to do so. Nothing pathetic about it at all.
The only thing pathetic about the whole situation is the reason's given to pull us in the first place.

The event is a Quo convention, made up of all the bands, fans etc. No one tribute band is bigger than the event itself so if people have booked purely on the basis to see one band they could see at any other occasion I find that a bit weird. Where did I say they don’t have the right to cancel?Reading your post looks like you are either in DOTH or know them well so rightly you/they must be disappointed.Ive no idea of the reasons and don’t wanna know it’s not my business. But it happens all the time in the business, bands pulled from events for whatever reason.Has happened to me over the years. I certainly wouldn’t book a weekend away just cos to see one tribute band particularly not when it’s all Quo bands playing. Plenty of other times to see these bands at their own gigs . Cheers

Cheers Believe it or not, people actually do go to gigs/events to see one band in particular. They also watch the other bands but aren't really interested in said bands. Maybe wierd to you, but it does happen. I myself have done the exact same thing.
You asked, 'Where did I say they don't have the right to cancel?'. They do have the right to cancel. People can do what they want in that respect. I wouldn't go to see Quo now that Parfitt has gone. Is that wierd to you? I'm well within my rights to do so, because apart from loving Quo's music to the moon and back, in a live situation, he was the only reason I went to their gigs.
I play rythym guitar in Dog of Two Head and I've just had the best gig of the year, possibly of my life pulled from under my feet for no reason at all! And I'll tell you the reason, because people deserve to know. The official reason for pulling us from the convention is because they think we will cancel! Is that a reason? Or an excuse? I've been in bands and worked as crew since I was 17 years old, that's 30 years and never in my life have I heard of a band being pulled from a gig/event 'just incase they decide to pull out'. It's about as unbelievable as Nicholas Cage's acting ability.
I call it outside influence from a manager of a band who thinks they are bigger than they are because their front man had enough of their bullshit and attitude and decided to leave the band and concentrate on his pregnant wife, his job and his own band. To be told by John Coghlan's Quo that the band comes before the birth of your first child is to me a downright ridiculous, selfish and money grabbing bullshit comment to make. If Dog of Two Head said to me that the gig comes before the birth of my first born, I'd tell them to F@#k off, pure and simple.
We have been pulled from the convention purely because, again, a band who thinks they are bigger than they are, don't want us there. The excuse they have used is the only thing they can come up with and it stinks of shit. If somebody can prove me wrong with cold, hard evidence then I will hold my hands up and apologize for everything I've said on social media, and believe me, I've made myself be heard over this ridiculous decision. Until that day happens, I'll argue my point till the day I die.

Oh dear. Quo country = politics once again. I'm was once in the midst of negotiating to go to a band convention for one night (if allowed)(the most I would ever consider) (If nearby) (And preferably not on the draughty coast) to see a fave trib band, when ... the entire convention was pulled for lack of sales Really sad for people who had booked travel etc. So yes people will turn out to see one band and no other. Good on the fan club for organising the convention, but it is not Quo and not everyone is going to be interested.

Like I said it’s a Quo convention not a DOTH gig,and I get you’re obviously pissed off .Sounds like you been shat on from a great height. But the event is about the whole weekend not just one band.By the way I liked Nicholas Cages last movie Cheers

Not once have I said it's a Do2H gig, and yes, one band do think they are bigger than the others. The fact they have a member of the original band does somewhat lift them above other tribute bands. The whole affair including the Australian tour that never was and was never going to be could have been much better handled though.
